does Tombstone VS have a bad transfer?

A review here on DVDtalk says that the transfer is flawless, while another that I have seen says it has enormous edge enhancement. I don't know how these reviews can be so different. Aren't they reviewing the same DVD? Anyway, how is the transfer?

I think it looks good. The main problem is the edge enhancement. I have a 61" display and it is definitey noticable in certain scenes. However, I think the transfer is still good (maybe around "B" or "B-" grade). A big improvement over the original version.

And the DTS track ROCKS! Outstanding track.

I tink it looks great. I've never had a problem with edge enhancement though.

It's a great set though neat extras, and my second favorite case (next to the LOTR:FOTR extended version).

Edge enhancement is one of those things that really bugs me. It's bad during several spots on this disc. I thought the EE on Star Wars 1 was pretty bad, for reference.

The daylight scenes where the the bright sky is behind the men is when the EE is at it's worst. I guess the black suits really make it stand out. I agree about Phantom Menace too, but it didn't bother me too badly.

Hmmm....I'll have to take a look at some of those scenes. EE is one of those things that I've never really noticed.

Hi Deckard-10.

Did you know that your sig quote is from the poem "Ulysses" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson?

And the Tombstone transfer is just fine. I just looked through some scenes for edge enhancement and it' REALLY hard to find - there's a little during the daylight scenes if you catch some building meeting skyline, but you REALLY have to be looking for it.

It's not at all noticeable and it's a very fine transfer. Not reference quality, but I wouldn't expect it to look any better until it comes out again in Hi-Def.

Doesn't EE differ from setup to setup and isn't it usually more pronounced in more high-end setups? I would figure that's why there could be differing views on the EE on Tombstone. On my low-end setups (old TV - RCA hookups/computer DVD) it looks great with some film dirt that I can remember, but it wasn't major.

IMO, while the edge enhancement certainly exists in some of the daylight scenes, this is still an excellent transfer. Check out the reds.

I had no idea it was from "Ulysses". &nbsp I'll make it a point to read this asap.

Thanks for the info, Jough!

You're the second person to tell me this today. &nbsp I think I'll take that advice and not go looking for it.

Without a doubt. Higher quality and/or larger displays make it more noticable. Those using projectors really get to suffer with EE.

Amen to that!

I'm so glad I'm just a movie/music/video game lover rather than an audio/videophile more in love with the technology. I can just enjoy the content and not getted pissed off by little imperfections like some grain, some EE, etc. etc.
