Best books on parenting/pregnancy?

Wonder if anyone has some good recommendations on books dealing with pregnancy, having babies, parenting, et cetera and so forth. We're considering adding something to the family besides DVDs, and just wondered what any dads/moms on the forum had to offer reading-wise.

We've gotten a lot from the "What to Expect..." series of books:

"What to Expect When You're Expecting"
"What to Expect The First Year"
"What to Expect The Toddler Years"

I have a book put out by the American Academy of Pediatrics called "The complete and authoritative guide caring for your baby and young child birth to age 5"

I really like it. I picked it up at Wal-Mart when my son was a couple of months old. He's 3 now and I still go through the book looking at their suggestions for what they should/shouldn't be doing at each stage. It's broken down by age groups like birth to a month, a month to three, four to seven months, 8 to 12 and then one for each year afterwards. It's got things on what should be a typical meal to what they should be able to do and when to start worrying.

The 2nd half of the book is about commen childhood illnesses. It has also been handy when worrying late at night if my child has something that really is a cold when I look it up.

All very good choices. My wife and I bought the What to expect... series when we found out we were pregnant and it helped us out SO much. My wife is usually a nervous person, but the books answered almost all of our questions. Very good resources indeed.

My wife bought this book and said it was the best book on the subject of pregnancy. The author writes about all the little things that doctors never go into. The kind of stuff that freaked me out. It's written in a very loose and humorous way.

Having a 19 month old and an 8 week old, we found these to be the best:

for Pregnancy:
What to Expect When You're Expecting
The Pregnancy Book by Sears

For parenting, raising:
Touchpoints - Brazelton
The Baby Book - Sears
Nighttime Parenting - how to get your baby to sleep - Sears
Discipline - the Brazelton way - Brazelton
What to Expect the first Year

Good luck! It's the most difficult thing ever and the most incredible, rewarding, amazing thing, too!!!
