*poof* oh, I'm awake now, thinks Corey Haim as he reaches for his hash pipe in the wee morning hour of...wait a minute, it's four in the afternoon! You're a bum, man!
*poof* The dreams of youth all gone in a puff of coke - but at least this kid had some of his dreams met in his life. He was a huge movie star in the 1980's, and he was in some really good films like "Firstborn" (1984), "Lucas" (1986), and "The Lost Boys" (1987). I don't want to say his lack of success in the 1990's was due to drugs, although drugs did play a huge role in his failure, but most child actors simply do not make the transition to adult star easily - to put it bluntly, the cute looks of some children do not carry over when they get older. Cute suddenly becomes...well, not cute. This is mostly due to drug and alcohol abuse, but sometimes it is just genetics. We get older, and that is a very hard thing for actors who were children when they got their "big break." Just as any number of former child stars, they'll tell you the same. (I saw Willie Aames recently on some program about former child stars, and he is just horrible to look at now. They show him in a clip from Eight is Enough - the long blonde hair, the slim build, then they show him walking down the hall all chubby and s***.) Hell, at 16 we were all beautiful, no? At 30, we change. And brother, Corey Haim has changed! And while he may not have been the brightest star in the constellation, he has gotten dumber through the years because of the drugs.
Will Corey Haim ever get his dream of winning an Academy Award? Not very *****ing likely. Will he ever have a screen comeback in America? Does he have a magic genie?!
I liked Corey Haim from the '80's. Imagine if I didn't like him!
