ar/framing of alias season 1
we've been trying to figure out the deal with this in
this thread. seeing as the dvds will be in fs. it was posted that iwas done in 4:3 and matted for 16:9. any info would be great.

I don't agree with jough here. I have copies of both the HD broadcasts and the SD broadcasts of many Season 1 episodes, and the HD broadcast is clearly more picture and more detail. Maybe it wasn't intended that way, but it sure looks damn good in its 16:9 ratio.
The scene that sticks out in my mind is when Syd and Anna Espinosa are opening that suitcase in the middle of that huge stadium. The scene plays out so much better when you can see how huge the stadium is and how they're all alone in the middle.
I don't see how 4:3 is a prefered ratio for this show in any capacity.

I don't agree. I've noticed on numerous occasions how scenes look claustrophobic to me. I think that if they just pulled out a little, it would look better. Personally, I hope this gets a 16:9 release.
