Brett Ratner booted from Superman movie...

... at least according to this site..http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=14753

I would take it with a grain of salt as that would be a godsend gift IMO.

The guy's a pompous ass, whose only success comes from 'concept' movies a monkey could successfully direct. His dismissal can only come as a good thing.

That said, the new Superman movie has at least three more false starts in its future... before a single frame of film is shot. Mark my words.

I hope this is correct(though i don't really trust "Fat Harry" either). I've never understood how Brett Ratner has the career he does. I was amazed he was handed Red Dragon and flabbergasted he was chosen for Superman. It'll be in everyone's best interest if he just goes back to making Rush Hour sequels.

Actually, it is not just Ain't It Cool News reporting this - I have seen it on a couple of websites today. It has something to do w/ an approval deadline from Warner's or something.

Multiple websites have reported that the 'option' for Ratner expired on Saturday with Warner Bros. having to decide wheter to pick it up and continue with Ratner as director or just let him go.

I think Warner Bros is going to drop him. He's just not a big enough name to attract a star worthy of headlining a frigging $170 million budget.

Hey, anybody is better than Nicholas Cage as Supes, right?

Brett Ratner off the Superman abortio... er, project is definitely a step in the right direction. Now get Peters off of it and we got something.

I still think this should be a Ridley Scott film, with Jude Law as an amazing Steve Rude-esque Man of Steel and Jason Isaacs as Luthor.

With Joe Dante, you'd get Superman vs. Daffy Duck....

...though come to think of it, I'd pay to see that!

I think we all know why Ratner was dismissed.

He probably wanted to have Superman flying, in the superman suit, and not fight a giant spider in the final act...

From Super Hero Hype:
http://www.superherohype.com/cgi-bin...8141363,29798,

As of Wednesday afternoon, according to his CAA reps, Ratner was still attached to "Superman." Later that day, Ratner's camp changed its tune, scrambling to release a statement late that evening.

Stated Ratner, "I have chosen to withdraw as director of 'Superman.' The difficulty of casting the role of Superman has contributed to my decision. I appreciate the efforts of Warner Bros. and the entire production team during this process."

Warners production president Jeff Robinov responded with his own statement: "We have tremendous regard for Brett's creativity and passion for this project and we understand that this was a very tough choice for him. We are disappointed but wish him the best in his future pursuits."

IT'S OFFICIAL! HE'S OUT!

Possibly the worst thing that could have happened to any comic book franchise, especially one as anticipated as Superman. The thought of a Superman movie being made by anybody with any remote connection to the Rush Hour movies makes me sick (ugh, Chris Tucker)

Honestly, I don't want to see a new Superman movie. I just don't think it could be done to do justice to Superman. And the Christopher Reeve movies (ok, maybe not 3 & 4), are about as close to my heart as Star Wars, Jaws, and Twilight Zone.

I grew up with the Christopher Reeve Superman. I've been introducing my kids to these movies, and they love them, no matter how dated they look. For me, and for many people, Christopher Reeve is Superman, and that's a hard impression to break.

It's the equivalent of remaking Star Wars. Mark Hamill is Luke, Harrison Ford is Han. Christopher Reeve is Superman, it's that simple.

I hope they stop all production on this movie, cancel any plans, and just find another comic book movie to make. Lord knows there's enough comic book characters out there to make movies about.

they should just wait until SMALLVILLE is done it's TV run and then make the new superman movie starring Tom Welling, and just use those characters and bring that to the screen... I'm sure a lot of people will disagree...but right now, Smallville is kicking so much ass, I don't think I'd want to see a Superman movie, because this tv show is good enough!

I'd always thought Brett Hackner was the worst possible choice for director.

Word! It's pretty clear that Smallville will not just end, but reach some sort of logical conclusion (Clark moving to Metropolis or something like that). Just let these actors finish the show and "graduate" to the movie.

And not just for Welling -- the way everyone feels about Reeve/Superman, that's now how I feel about Lex Luthor. I don't want anyone other than Rosenbaum to play him. He's that good.

I'm glad ratners gone. His vision for the movie was messed up. Anthony hopkins as lex luthor?? Okay, but its a stretch. And his superman picks were horrible.

Hopefully the suits will throw out some of the script "updates" You have to stay true to the comic.

From Comingsoon.net:

While the casting for the lead role in Superman continues, director Brett Ratner shared his thoughts to MTV who he would like to see in supporting roles.

He says he wants Christopher Walken to play Perry white, the Daily Planet newspaper editor where Clark Kent works. "He said he'd be interested."

According to the article, Ratner said he wants Anthony Hopkins to play the villainous role of Lex Luthor and Ralph Fiennes to play Superman's father, Jor-El. "There are a lot of great actors that I've approached," he said optimistically. "But unless I get the Man of Steel, it's gonna be hard."
I thought it sounded backwards too. Maybe somebody got confused, but I was just going off the last thing i heard.

As far as Hopkins is concerned, I recall him saying he was going to be playing Jor-El. And another thing..in that quoted article it states that "...director Brett Ratner shared his thoughts to MTV..." but then later on it says "...According to the article, Ratner said..."

Article? If it was an interview on MTV, why would it be referred to as an "article"? Of course it could be their phraseology.

Ah...who cares...it don't matter anymore!

From tvguide.com--

NEW FLIGHT PLAN: Superman has encountered more turbulence. Brett Ratner has dropped out as director allegedly because Warner Bros. failed to approve his choice to play the Man of Steel, Guiding Light hunk Matthew Bomer. "The difficulty of casting the role of Superman has contributed to my decision,"
says Ratner. "I appreciate the efforts of Warner Bros. and the entire production team during this process." Ratner will now begin work on Rush Hour 3.
But, based on Jackie's comments about RH while promoting Shanghai Knights, I don't really think RH3 will happen..?

The director of such modern classics as "Rush Hour" and "Money Talks" has no f**king business doing "Superman." Bring on anybody else, please!
