War and American Idol
With the looming war, do you think that Josh(??) the marine will really keep his word and leave the show? Or will he get a special exemption and stay?

I think he will go off to war. I take him at his word.
In reality, I think leaving the show to go to war would do more for his singing career than if he won the competition.

This brings up another interesting question. Suppose he wasn't called up to go to Iraq. Suppose he remained in the competition-- and won.
Would he be able to sign a recording contract at all? Wouldn't his military contract preclude him from any other contracts? Now I can see the military letting him participate. After all, his participation in American Idol is probably doing more for their recruitment than years of that "marine fights lava monster" commercial. But if he did win, would they let him walk away from the military in favor of the recording contract?
Hmmm-- on second thought, this could end up with shades of the Simpsons "N'Sync" episode. "Yvan Eht Nioj!"

They said that if he has to go off to war, he gets to come back next season where he left this season.
So if he makes it to hte top 10 but has to leave, he gets in the top ten next season.
