Anyone know how to crack into the translating business?
I'd like to work for a company translating books from English to Spanish and Spanish to English. Anyone know how to crack into it? Who to contact?

Recommend knocking on the Romance Languages department's doors down at the local university or your alma mater. Many foreign language professors at large universities supplement their income with translation work, and they'll probably be glad to help.

Email/call first to see if you can drop by during office hours, with calls preferred (harder to say no to a phone call).
If you're looking for basic info about breaking into the industry, just give them an honest idea of your qualifications/questions and they'll probably hand over a few more names that will help you.
As for what's in it for them, nothing but the ultimate academic ego-stroker: someone coming to their office for an expert opinion.
