Onkyo has this package for 499 shipped, with $10 off for joining clubonyko. What are your opinions on this receiver mainly, and secondly, the speakers?
Obviously better than my RCA I have right now.
Thanks!

I have the HT-R500 paired with those speakers and I can tell you that I am in love with my system. The speakers sound incredible but are very large, so be aware of that. There has been a lot of discussion of Onkyo systems here, so you might want to try a search to see what others have said about that particular model receiver, but most comments I see about Onkyo in general have been very positive.

For the price, it is very good considering the SR600 usually goes for ~$400 by itself. After seeing the HT-R500 speaker package in a store, the surrounds were just too big for my setup, ~12" tall IIRC. Definitely go look at them in person if you have the chance. If you have the space, especially for the rears, then go for it.
I matched my SR600 with the JBL NSP1 speaker package and a Sony WM40 sub. I am very pleased with the rcvr. Some of the reasons I chose it over the competition:
+OSD
+THD .08%
+192k/24-Bit Capable, Frt Left and Rt only
+Learning, multibrand Remote
+60MHz Component Bandwidth
During my research I found info about the SR600 going to 34WX6 in multi channel mode. The general idea is that Onkyo is skimping on the power supply. Using this SPL Calculator (http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html), 34W still gets me over 100dB for my room. In my setup, the SR600 has no problem playing movies as loud as I want them and sounds REALLY good.
