Survivor: Amazon - 3/6/03

Sort of a low-energy episode.

The winner of the reward challenge was:

The men who got all 4 of their ropes burned through faster than the women and got a mini-fridge of Coca-Cola for their troubles.

The winner of the immunity challenge was:

The men again who caught more fish than the women.

So at tribal council, the person who got sent home was:

Joanna, even though Shawna really wanted to go home because she is at her low point. But the rest of her alliance (Deena, Heidi, Jenna) convinced Christy to vote for Joanna because Joanna is too strong of a competitor down the road. What's ironic is that only Jeane and Joanna voted against Shawna, and the votes revealed a 4-2 vote (Joanna over Shawna), but the last vote by Shawna was not revealed, and Shawna voted for Christy. So Shawna sort of dodged a bullet in not having that last vote show up, so she can still play like she's in the alliance.

Heidi is starting to really scare me, if I said she was cute before - I take it back completely.

Shauna - you are a whiny bitch who is completely stupid and naive. You haven't been there for more than ten days. I know that you don't have a lot to eat, but how hard is it to drink your water and avoid dehydration?

What sucks is we know that they are going to waste more camera time on her next week.

The men actually competed as an organized team for once. It's about time - looks like they have been humbled, too, by some of their remarks.

These challenges need to get more exciting - I want to see them use more of the Amazon - enough of this stationary, stay in one little area crap!

The only thing worse than the guys talking constantly about how cute the chicks are is the chicks talking about how cute they are.

Good to see Joanna gone although I don't look forward to hearing Shawna's continued whining.

We were laughing at how Shawna fell over. She looked like Maggie Simpson!

I really wish they would edit these episodes better. I mean, simply by paying attention to what team they focus on you know who is going to tribal council, and which two are possibly going home. I keep thinking, "OK, they are trying to fool me by making this so obvious." But, they don't. I want a little suspense in the show.

Still love the show, though.

What's up with the date thing for next week? The only time they've ever done that is just before a merger, which they couldnt be doing this early, right? If it's the result of a reward challenge, who won? (Other than Dave )

DAMN BUSH

I had to work today so i taped the show. I put in the tape and what do i see, you kissing up to your daddy. Who really cares about you and your war, all i wanted to do was watch the show. I usally tape 10min extra at the end of the show. So therefore i only got to see 10 to 15 min of the show, thanks alot. So stop interrupting these shows. You should just stay at home, and play with you silver spoons.

Nice reward. They should hurry up and get rid of the coke so they can refill the cans with water and have chilled water.

The girls are idiots for not voting out Shawna. They need to think about winning team challenges first. They're too far away from the merge to think about individual challenges. Joanna is too strong? Who cares, that won't matter if the guys have an advantage at merge time.

You beat me to it, SunMonkey. I just finished watching tonight's episode (pacific time) and was thinking about the same thing.

The past two weeks, it's been painfully obvious which team was going to lose the Immunity Challenge, based on the editing of the first half hour. Whichever team is shown strategizing and talking about alliances is the team which is going to Tribal Council.

That said, I am so glad that Joanna was voted off. I honestly couldn't take much more of her "Praise Jesus" stuff. Tonight, when the first rope caught fire and she said something like, "That's my Jesus!", I wanted to scream "No, that's your tribe working together to build a fire, you stupid -----!!!" And then there's her singing "Hallelulah" after she's voted off?!?!

Glad she's gone.

As annoying as Joanna was it isnt smart too boot your strongest member and keep the weakest. Their number 1 priority should be winning the immunity challenges so that they go into the merge with the majority. Otherwise it doesnt matter how strong your alliance is, the other tribe will just pick you off one by one. Not only that but since everyone hated her she could have easily been gotten rid of when she was no longer useful.

It appears as if Jesus was not backing the woman's team this week in the challenges. Maybe that is why Joanna got voted off, she lost contact with Jesus.

csim, I missed the show too because Tivo taped the Bush speech.
Think about what you just said, though. I can understand being disappointed (I am), but don't you think the REAL world is a little more important than one episode of Survivor?

Heidi is ugly along with the rest of them.
She looks like an alien.

The challenges have been watered down so the men didn't win them all.

So far all of them involved unlocking locks, puzzles and guessing games.

Finally we see 2 challenges last night that involve some skill and the men win them both.

I see a merge happening real soon because the women's team is pathetic. They just threw out there only team member with strength.

I'm so sick of hearing the 3 girls talk about how cute they are and how great their bodies are. Please, you aren't cute, you're ugly and you're anorexic.

Well, the politics of the weak has already reared its ugly head with the "pretty girls" sending their strongest back home. Sure, I can understand wanting not to go against Joanna in the individual challenges down the line, but if your tribe gets decimated, you are going to be outnumbered down the line. Shawna is just a zombie right now in her condition. She won't be helping the tribe avoid Tribal Council in the near future. Just when you hope the women were going to be smart about it, they go for security in numbers, rather than cultivate their strengths and cut loose their liabilities to remain strong in competition.

As it plays out, if the women lose the next 2 immunity challenges, Jean is gone, and then Shawna (or vice versa). Christy made a good choice (in terms of survival) to move up 2 spots on the "Off the Island" pecking order, and perhaps to the merge.

Not according to Joanna. Here's her final words:
I would like to say hallelujah, oh glory, giving God the highest praise for allowing me the opportunity to be here for 12 days and setting me free to go back and eat and be the person that I really am. I really feel that I represented myself very well, quite well enough that it intimidated some people. I wish the girls well, and I hope that they can stand to be here a number of days.

I'd like to say, "I love you, Trey, and Mommy's coming home very, very, very soon."

I think that I got voted off because I'm very strong, and I'm very independent, and a lot of people found that intimidating, in particular, Deena. I have a big smile on my face because I don't know my purpose for coming here in the first place. I never thought it was to be in the jungle for 39 days, but I was going to be here as long as the Lord allowed me. I prayed and prayed and prayed all night and all today that I could go home and eat some good food and just meditate and do things that I needed to do and be safe, and He has answered that request. I am very elated that He has not made me stay here another three days. I mean, it is so thrilling to be able to go and take care of myself.

Hallelujah, oh glory! Hallelujah, amen. God is the man. To God be the glory all the time.
Granted Joanna was one of the physically strongest members of the tribe -- and Shawna is just pathetic dead weight at this point -- but can you imagine putting up with this type of rhetoric for 12 days?

Huh? It doesn't take skill to figure out how to get across a beam 2x2 or to put together a puzzle or not be a lunkhead and ask someone for something in their suitcase that they just paired up and took out? I don't get how these challenges benefitted the women...

And the women just made the dumbest move of the game...yeah, let's keep the gimp, she'll keep us away from tribal council!!

None of the challenges so far have been physical, except for last night and they weren't very physical.

The challenges have been watered down so the women could win them too.

If they had the same challenges as in the other Survivor shows (swimming, obstacle courses, racing, rowing) the men would win every one of those.

But we haven't seen any challenge like this yet and we won't until after the merge.

The very first challenge involved plenty of skill. And the men showed none. Also getting out of that cage was a very fair challenge imo. I couldn't understand how the men were not able to cut a rope...

It was obvious that the women would lose the fire challenge given their failure to build a fire in the first one. The fishing one was also obvious.

Spoiler:

according to some spoilers it is quite likely that there will be a switch next week. so having Joanna kicked off was actually a smart move.

After seeing the difficulty the guys had in trying to chop/cut a thin piece of rope with a machete, I would not necessarily hang my hat on them for all physical challenges.

Okay by your logic, men would win challenges that weren't watered down..so wouldn't they have an even EASIER time winning challenges that WERE watered down?? I don't get your logic here...for something to be a "challenge" on Survivor, it doesn't have to be physical...there has always been a huge mix of challenges.

And anyways, what's wrong with altering challenges to keep them fair for both sides? I don't get what is so wrong with this year's challenges...

On another topic, didn't the previews for this weeks episode show or imply that someone got bit by a piarhna? What happened to the scene?
