Gamecube Import Question

A little bird told me that you had to have a seperate memory ard to play import games on the Gamecube, regardless of method.

Well, I have about 4 hours until I receive the 2nd of 3 games I bought my Gamecube for, and it's import only..

Yep. I have the freeloader disc, and it requires that you have a different memory card for it. I guess the cards for US games, and JAP games get formatted differently. I almost lost all of my saves because of this.

That sucks ... Sony's controllers, memory cards, etc. = regionless. I am a happy importer.

Yeah, there were a few worthy PS1 imports. The only PS2 import I want is a little TOO text heavy to be playable. I would buy a PS2 the second that game was released in english.

I thought the Japanese PS2 requires a Japanese memory card?

Noonan!! I have a question!! Will 2 memory cards co-exsist? Can I have my normal one in slot 1 for USA games and another in slot 2 for Jappy games? Or am I going to have to swap every time.. and is there a potential for idiots trying to play my import game formatting my precious Zelda and Metroid saves? (And my 286 Smash Brothers trophies)

Honestly I haven't tried that. To be safe whenever I play an import I remove my "US" memory card from the gamecube. I'm guessing that it would be fine in slot two though since you won't be trying to save anything to it.

pixiboi, are you planning on using a freeloader disc/action replay, or is your player region free?

Freeloader.. I wouldn't mind having it modded though if it would make life easier. This girl I know, knew I REALLY wanted Mr Driller Drill Land and bought it and a Freeloader as a present.. so.. hehe.. hell, I'd send it to get modded if I knew it would solve any memory card problems.

Nope. That's a problem - I keep bringing the wrong memory card with me when I go to load up KH Final Mix

It won't. I have a modded cube and you have to have a Japan formatted memory card for Japan games and a US formatted card for US games. That doesn't mean you have to get the memory card from japan. just buy a US one and in the Japan mode of the cube format it.

Wow.. nothing, and I mean nothing, is more distrubing than hearing a remix of the music from Dig Dug and then hearing japanese children sing some weird japanese version of "It's a Small World" over it..

Well.. this really sucks. The game is awesome, but it will not save and load properly. It appears to save ok, but when you try to load it just reformats the card. Apparently it's a problem with the Freeloader disc.

So I'm stuck playing easy mode on Mr Driller.. and I'm a Mr Driller expert.. playing easy mode is going to make me retarded.

that sucks about the saving thing though, it sounds like the freeloader is booting the game properly but doesn't actually switch your system into japanese mode which is required for saving. You could probably sell the freeloader and get your system modded, the best price i've seen (and the place i got mine done) is here. It was only around $25 at that time.

No. No you cannot.

What would be the whole point of this thread then if you could?

Man I am SO glad I didn't pay for this game.. having to eventually send my machine to be modded and eventually having to buy a new memory card, on top of the game's cost.. I'd've been pretty pissed.

But.. it's Mr Driller.. so.. it's okay.
(There better be some worth GC imports soon.. or else)
