ID this Jet Li flic for me

It had 2 notable scenes in it. One is a contest where noone is allowed to touch the ground, the other is a fight where they are crouching under a stage the whle time.

Someone first told me it was called "the legend" in the us version. I bought it, it wasn't the right one, AND it was dubbed 2nd try, was told it was the SEQUEL to the legend, when he goes back to Asia, called fong sai yuk 2. Not it again, though the mother character was the same.

Tired of paying $$ for the wrong movie. Can anyone tell me what video I want without a doubt?

Well first of all - FSY 1 and 2 are among his best movies... so you shouldn't feel bad. Can you be more specific about the movie you're looking for? Cuz it sounds like alot of his films. I was thinking FSY or maybe one of the Once Upon a Time in China movies. You sure it's Jet Li? Maybe Iron Monkey?

My first thought was FSY with the fight where they were trying to win the princess up on the tower, but it's true that it's common. There is a similar scene in twin warriors (the tai chi master) on a tower and OUATIC with some ladders. The scene under the stage sounds familiar, but don't rememeber which film it was and I've lost my copy of twin warriors.

More information would help.

OK, there was a 5 minute battle that involved alot of stepping on heads. In the end, Jet admits defeat, but that makes mom angry so she enters and wins contest.
Dad was a goofus, mom the kung Fu master.
Towards the end there was a "battle against time" scene where mom is hanging and the rope holding her is on fire.
At the end they show you the scroll of names they were protecting, and its the credits......

As I describe it, I has alot in common with FSY 2, but thats definately not it.

I think you are talking about FSY 1 (Fong Sai Yuk 1) whichh is titled legend by columbia I think.
First scene is when he is fighting during tournament held by rich man who is allow champion to marry his daughter.
Second scene is when he fights marshall/police who came to capture a group leader who raised a group opposing King.

Looks like FSY 1 is the correct one. I definatly remember that 6-tuple arrow!

I figured it out. The tape I rented was labeled "the legend (1989)" Obviously it should have said "the master". This is the source of my confusion. Wonder if its worth chewying out the video clerks......

Are there english titles for these movies? I had always assumed they were Once Upon a Time in China but after reading one of the links above I see I'm wrong.

Fong Sai Yuk 1 & 2 are known as "The Legend" 1 & 2 on the US DVD.

Tai-Chi Master is known as "Twin Warriors."

High Risk is known as "Meltdown."

Hitman is known as "Contract Killer."

Once Upon a Time in China has the same English title in the US and Hong Kong

The Master rules! In the Universe Full Frame glory DVD. For the immense cheesiness... you can't put down any of the fight scenes. Some of his best.... The actors... some of the worst amigo! Don't diss the 80's...

Are you for real? The MASTER? Is it the one when Jet LI goes to cali???

And that movie in question is mos_definitely FongSaiYuk, becuase I remember the stage fight vividly towards the end, and the bow with 5 arrows, that movie is dBomb. Romeo must die can't hold a candle to that movie....

Legend of Red Dragon = The New Legend of Shaolin.

A highly enjoyable flick.

Best copy to get is the UNIVERSE HK DVD (light blue cover with Jet and the awesome kid on the cover)

Just rented Legend of the Red Dragon out of curiosity. The print is good but not anamorphic. The worst part is the dubbing. They had them speak with heavy accent, like in Legend of the Drunken Master >:
