OK, I used a BestBuy 10% off coupon to buy it this past weekend. I wasn't sure if I really needed it but didn't want the coupon to go to waste. Plus I fiqured I have 30 days to decide on keeping it. Can anybody help me by giving suggestions for using it? I also wonder if I can make my own demo disc taking certain scenes from my DVD collection to include on a single DVD? Can I make a greatest hits video DVD from my collection with this unit? Any help would be appreciated.

You could make a demo disc but that would violate this site's TOS so no more talking about that. The main legitimate reason I use mine for its storing tv shows in avi form. On a single dvdr with good compression i can fit ~10 hours. I also love having dvdrw since 4.3 gigs of temp storage is nice when i need some room to play with some large files.

Will DVDs made with this burner play on most standalone DVD players or will I need to buy a special unit for my HT setup?
Also what's the best media to use with this unit? Meaning which format plays on most DVD players. Where should I buy it and what will it cost?

Mmm, probably not that much, but I'm no expert. I had heard in the past some figure like 70 stories worth of phone books, but I dunno.

dvdrhelp.com has a list of what set tops support what formats.
they also have a list of what media works in what burners.
I recommend the sample pack from supermediastore.com and seeing which work for you then buying lots of that kind.
Buy:
