CC Company calling to "confirm" International DVD site charges?
Did this happen to anyone else ever? In the last two days I ordered from Benson's World and EZYDVD Australia...both charges showed up today and they called my work asking for me. I wasnt there obviously so my work called my house and told me. Is this normal procedure I'll have to go through every time or something?

While that may be a pain its actually probably a good thing....you wont have to deal with possible fraud from other countries.
I am willing to bet you could actually call your CC company when you place and order and have them put a note in your account stating to allow the charge.

It's annoying... but it's there to protect you.
You can call your credit card company and ask them to let through any charges from... (list your International companies here).
I usually call the minute I order something "substantial" online, and put a note on my account that a charge of about $xxxx.xx will be coming through from xxxxRetailerxxxx, please let it through.

I've never had that happen from any international site I've ordered from (including Benson's World). Then again, someone used my credit card for some Malaysian webhosting charge last year too! Guess my credit card company just doesn't care too much.

I had this problem with the idiots (and their software developers and staff) at RBS Advanta.
I had them freezing my account on 3-4 occasions due to 'unusual spending'. All this spending was not extraordinary at all (ie all the same retailers and the similar values over months and months of spending). They kept saying that as the card was being used on several continents it caused a problem. Even though I'd EXPRESSLY asked them to amend the account with the fact it was Web orders I still got my card rejected and phone calls from them. If this was for the purchase of a $10,000 rug from Outer Mongolia or a small white horse in Mexico I could understand -but it was just a few $$$s. And as I said it was with suppliers I'd used many many times.
I sorted the problem by cancelling the card and using another CC.

I had this happen once when I had orders from Hong Kong, Spain and the UK all within the same month.
The banks are just trying to protect themselves and you from fraud and I agree with them.

I had a similar thing happen to me recently, although not with an international charge.
I'd only been away from the shop where I'd made the purchase a short time when my cellphone rang and it was the Credit Card Company calling to verify that I had made the purchase!
I understand that they are using a new computer system that alerts them to unusual or out of the ordinary purchases on accounts.
Guess they want to try and nip CC fraud in the bud.
It didn't really bother me.

It used to happen all the time with me...I get lots of French films and they use to call to confirm the charges. As stated above I see nothing wrong with that. I ACTUALLY LIKE IT!!
However nowadays, what I do currently is as soon as I place an overseas order I call my credit card company and I tell them that I have placed an order in France/England/Holland and they seem to be more than happy. By doing so you avoid waiting for your package to get shipped....this way they dont put a "check" to your transaction-the overseas site charges your account and..... VOILA.... your dvds are on their way to the US.
Simple really. It might involve a but of a hassle for you to call right after you place an order but I sure prefer to make a phone call NOW and make sure that everything goes smoothly as opposed to dealing with God knows what much later.

Thanks for all the stories! Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying that I didnt like them calling...I'm really glad that they are on top of this stuff and I'm not worried about fraud at all. I would much rather have them call to confirm these things then wait until I get the bill and have a 3000 dollar charge for some porn site :shifty-eyes:....
Just wanted to see if it was standard procedure or if I'm special...lol
