got thinking about this after seeing Metroid Prime has the original Metroid on it...
is there anyone out there who has ported a bunch of the original nintendo games to a GC disc? that would be really cool to have the whole NES library on a GC disc. (i think they did this with dreamcast?)

Not that I know of, but if you get the Gameboy Advance Player you'll have access to all of the GBA/GBC/GB games that feature Nintendo games.

I've already reserved the new GBA that's coming out, but I'm a little shaky on how to play NES games. Do the GBA games come with the old games on the same cartridge or do they all require the E-Reader (not sure if that's exactly what it's called). I'm basically buying the GBA just to play Metroid and Zelda, everything else is extra.

Gallant was talking about the new GBA player/adapter coming out to hook up to the GC ... it will play all the Game Boy series of cartridges, except the Kirby Tilt stuff

Sweet, this purchase keeps looking better and better the more I find out about it.

Animal Crossing has several original NES games included, although you have to work to get them (at least until the Gameshark, or whatever they are calling it now, is released).

There are some old games on the E-Reader, but it looks like the E-reader will not be compatible with the GBA-SP in its current form.

And if Nintendo plans on being taken seriously for online gaming, we can all pray that this is NEVER released.

i really, really hate that GameShark and GameGenie are given such a bad rap. It would be easy for nintendo (or ps2, ms) to prevent online cheating regardless of GameShark (or whatever)
As a kid with 4 nintendo games for about 4 years: Mario, Duck Hunt, Castelvania 3, Metroid, the game genie gave me unlimited replay value after i had finished the game fair/square. (expecially metroid!)
immediately associating those devices withe evil doers is wrong!

They should port over those n64 games, goldeneye, mariokart, mario64? That would be aweeesome.

IGN reported a couple weeks ago that they are porting Dr. Mario and some other puzzle games from N64 to the Cube all on one disc. It's going to be released first in Japan and hopefully in the states

They should make a super NES/N64 cartidge adapter for the 'cube, like they did for the GBA.

It will be compatible. How so? In my understanding, the E-Reader plugs in to both the game slot AND the link port. The game slot is on the opposite side of link port in the GBA-SP.
Edited to add: You can see the link port connection jutting out in this picture.

My thinking EXACTLY. Thanks for finding that pic. The reader would have to be completely redesigned in order to work on the new GBA.

It will work on the new GBA. The only reason the E-Reader has a link port on it, is because it covers it up, and Nintendo didn't want to take away its function. It's only a pass through. It is not used in any way. The proof is here.

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/382/382062p1.html Ah, I see. I've never really used an E-Reader, so that's why I was confused. So (for the original GBA) the E-Reader actually has its own linkport in case you wanted to use it and link up with something, I guess. Thanks for clearing it up.

The e-reader is not as hot as everybody thinks it is.
