Personally I think this list is pretty good, I'm surprised that there were no episodes from seasons 10-12 on the list.

Nothing after Season 8 would make my top-25.

There are some good picks in there, but some bad omissions. For example, no Colonel Homer?

Don't know if I completely agree with "Last Exit" as number 1, but the rest of the list sure is good stuff.

I wish they had put in either Homer The Great or Homer Goes to College.

Those 2 would be in my Top 5.

Personally I thought seasons 10-12 were the worst seasons ever, but even those seasons produced some gems that I thought would make the cut (Behind the Laughter, 30 Minutes Over Tokyo, Trilogy of Error).

A poll recently held at the No Homers Club message board declared "Last Exit" as the best episode ever, at least whoever wrote that list is somewhat on the same page as the Simpson "old-schoolers".

Ok, maybe that's just because I don't remember the episode very well. It's been a while since I've seen it. I just know the other ones on the list I remember by name, whereas Last Exit I had to read the link for.

I loved all of these eps with the exception of "How I Spent My Strummer Vacation". Just thought that was another season opening celeb-fest, with the usual lack of wit and whimsy.

I give no credence to any Simpsons "Best Of" list that doesn't include: "Three Men and a Comic Book."

I would definitely include LIttle Girl in the Big 10 somewhere on that list.

Amen!

My all-time favorite is "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish". No list of mine would be complete without that one, too.

How could they put Treehouse of Horror 5 on there? The previous 4 were all better and Treehouse 4 is my favorite episode of Simpsons ever.

Overall yes, but Treehouse V does have my single favorite story of all the Treehouse episodes: "Time & Punishment" where Homer accidentally turns a toaster into a time machine.

Only recognize a few of those by titles, but "Life on the Fast Lane" is one of the lesser episodes, methinks.

Anyhow, for comparisons' sake, these are the Top 25 at TVTome:

1) King-Size Homer
2) Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner
3) Itchy & Scratchyland
4) Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo
5) Homer's Phobia
6) Mayored to the Mob
7) Deep Space Homer
8) Tree House of Horror V
9) Lemon of Troy
10) Krusty Gets Busted
11) Trilogy of Error
12) Marge vs. the Monorail
13) Behind the Laughter
14) Homer the Great
15) Homer vs. the 18th Amendment
16) Cape Feare
17) Homer at the Bat
18) Tree House of Horror II: A Simpsons Halloween
19) Bart of Darkness
20) Homer and Apu
21) Tree House of Horror IV: The Simpson's Halloween Special IV
22) The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson
23) 22 Short Films About Springfield
24) Three Men and a Comic Book
25) Mr. Plow

Seems better in general, even if I completely disagree with the public's TVTome rankings on Saved By The Bell!

The TVTome list is meh at best ("Guess Who's Coming" and "Mayored to the Mob" aren't bad episodes, but they're far from the upper echelons as Simpsons eps go). Personally I thought EW should've had "Lisa's Substitute" and "Homer the Heretic" on that list.

Even though I don't agree with EW's rankings, I figured I would see which seasons did the best on their list, since I haven't decided which seasons on dvd I'm going to buy. When I got to Flaming Moe's they listed it as airing Jan. 1991 which would make it season 2. Since I didn't think Simpsons got good until season 3, I decided to check epguides.com and it actually aired Nov 1991, making it season 3. If the dates on the rest of the episodes are correct, it comes out to 5 episodes from season 4. Season 6 had 4 and seasons 3, 5, 7, and 8 had 3 episodes each. Season 2 had 2 episodes and seasons 1,9, and 14 all had 1 episode. I already knew I was going to get season 4 and 5. Guess I just have to decide on 3 and 6-8.

The EW list is missing my 2 favorites: Astronaut Homer & The Trial Of Freddy Quimby - but besides that, it's not a bad list.

I was just going to post the same thing. No "Best Of" list is complete without it.

I dunno if I'd put "Last Exit" as my #1, but it's definitely in the top 5, if only for Lisa's strike song ("So we'll march day and night / By the big cooling tower / They have the plant / but we have the power"). A few eps on that list I don't particularly like (such as "I Love Lisa"), and a few I thought really should have been there (the aforementioned "You Only Move Twice"). But otherwise the EW list is pretty good.
