Int'l Newbie Help: What are your favorite non-R1 discs?

Hello all -

I just got a malata r0 player, and now I'm ready to buy some software for it. I'm looking for recommendations on

1. Discs that have been released in R1, but which are far superior as released in other regions (Example: R2 Director's cut of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels)

2. Discs that haven't been released in R1 yet, and which will not likely be released in R1, or which will likely have inferior R1 editions (Example: R2 In the Mood for Love, R4 Buffy the Vampire Slayer Seasons)

Thanks for any advice you might have!

P.S. Sorry if this has been asked before - I did a search for similar topics, but it's hard to know what search terms to use....

I believe all releases of Eyes Wide Shut outside of Region 1 are uncut, meaning no obtrusive silhouettes blocking the action.

South Park seasons 3 and 4
British comedies (thin blue line, entire Mr. Bean series, etc.)
Jackie Brown
Dick Tracy (although I didn't like this as much as I thought that I remembered liking it)

If you like smokin' hot Euro Babes I would recommend
getting some Tinto Brass DVDs.

UK Releases
Miranda (English Track
Voyeur, The (English Track)

Dutch Releases

PO BOX (English Track)
All Ladies Do It (English Track)
Paprika (no english)

HK Release

Frivolous Lola (English Track

Italian Release

Trasgredire (English track)

I have lent some to friends and all become card carrying Tinto fans after checking them out.

Your Malata will play Trasgreidire like the cats ass, it was squeeze city on my Apex until I upgraded.

Looking for Region 2 DVD recomendations...

Actually, any non-region 1/All Region.

Just got a region free DVD player, and am interested in taking advantage of it.

I am particularly interested in titles that are not available in Region 1 or titles with superior features in other regions.

Those who are interested in doing a lot of research can check out my DVD's in my sig. (Though of course I don't expect ya to).

Thanks!

THEY LIVE.
The R2-Pal British version of this John Carpenter classic is great. Widescreen anamorphic with commentary, and a lot cheaper than the inferior but out-of-print Image/Universal R1 release (sold mine for $80). Got it at Bensonsworld.uk for about $20 shipped.

DRIVE,
with Mark Dacascos. Great action flick. Also R2, UK. Get the SE edition.

Check out the DEFINITIVE List of DVDs EXCLUSIVELY available OUTSIDE the US - Part III thread from the international forum.

Personally, I'm planning to pick up a Widescreen Happy Gilmore from R2 or R4 one of these days.

Definitely gotta 2nd R2 Ed Wood. Excellent disc all around. It's one of the reasons I bought a multiregion player.

If you like the Young Ones you've got to check out a series called Bottom made by Adrian Edmundson and Rick Mayall. Very funny, the 2 have great chemistry together. There's a Best Of DVD, a movie and couple of their stage shows available. Those were the DVDs that made me glad I bought a multiregion player.

Also, The Commitments, but it's not that grand of a disc. Non anamorphic 1.33:1, 2 channel Dolby sound. But, it's still worth owning IMHO.

"Must have" international discs

I have recently entered the multi-region world and was wondering where to start with discs. I could not find another thread on this, but if there is one just point me in the right direction. As you can see by clicking on my collection profile (DVD Profiler), I have a wide variety of tastes. I know many people have their individual favorites, but is there any kind of consensus on what the "must have" discs are? I'm mostly interested in things that aren't available in R1 (and won't be in the "near" future) or are in uncensored/much better quality versions elsewhere. While I love dts, I don't think I'd go overseas just for that if there is a good DD version available here. I would go 16x9 over P&S and I do like extra supplements. I've done the research on e-tailers and now I just need some starting suggestions.

Ed Wood R2, since there's not 1 for R1. Great a/v and great extras. It should be on the shelf next to ever region free player.

The Office and Spaced, two great britcoms available R2.

Would have to go with Battle Royale R2, directors cut and comes in a tin.

Pandora's Box (R2 also), one of the main reasons I bought my region free was for this movie. One of my favorite silents, nothing beats a Louise Brook movie.
