Blind buy questions

Been waiting for a few months with Y Tu Mama Tambien and Sunset Boulevard sitting in my Netflix queue. Since it looks like they'll never come up for shipment, and since neither one is available at the local Hollywood Video, I'm contemplating just getting them as a blind buy.

I loved Double Indemnity, so I suspect I'll enjoy Sunset Boulevard as well (both being Billy Wilder flicks).

Not sure about Y Tu Mama Tambien. Any movies it compares to?

darkflounder: Y Tu Mamá También can be described as a teen roadtrip comedy shrouding a very bitter drama, all encased loosely within social commentary. My favorite part(s) of the movie are when Alfonso Cuarón lets the camera drift and capture (sometimes with voice over) a certain event or extra meaning to a scene. I'm not the most articulate person at midnight after working a 12-hour day, but I would say that if you liked comedies that work in drama well (say, Royal Tenenbaums), this is sure to please as well. It is hard to make a movie that contains scatological humor like American Pie and touching dramatic scenes like All About My Mother, but Alfonso has done it.

I didn't have any trouble getting Sunset Blvd on Netflix a few weeks ago. Keep trying! It's a great film. Lots of odd characters and a very film noir sort of feel to it. Even though you know how it's going to end from the first scene you can't stop watching to see how it could possibly end up that way. The commentary is also very good. A great inside look at Hollywood, and how talking pictures changed the lives of people who had been silent film stars. I'm planning on buying it myself at some point.

Y Tu Mama Tambien is pretty original, so I can't really compare it to anything, but very entertaining and a pretty good blind buy.

not really, but it was my second favorite film of last year, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes foreign films.

Sunset Blvd. is an almost definite "must-own".
You name the category, the Sunset Blvd. DVD shines.
