I don't have cable television and don't ever plan on having it. Nothing of interest is ever on, and I'm just not home enough to watch anything. When I am home I like to enjoy a movie, and that's about it.

The only time I will be using cable for any reason is to get the deal of receiving ALL the sports channels for the entire football season in order to see as many games as I can. Other than that, I won't have a need to for television. So is an HDTV worth the money for me in this situation. Will it make that much of a difference when watching a game? I just don't want to spend the money one something that I don't really need. I mean I would have to get the satellite dish hooked up to receive the signal and all that, and if it's too much than I'll just do without.

Can you receive a good signal from your antenna?

This is how I get all my HD broadcasts. Cable & satellite have pretty slim pickings right now.
Do you enjoy watching DVDs? The picture will be much improved on a HDTV over a traditional analog.

If the answers to these questions is "no", then no, it is probably not worth it for you.

Well, I don't have cable OR a satellite feed, no HDTV tuner and no intentions of "buying in" for another year or two when there will be many more games (NHL and NFL) broadcast in HDTV...

BUT

I do have a 16X9 HDTV set and it's worth every damn_penny as far as I'm concerned > I only use it for 16X9 DVDs...

No. The signal from an anenna sucks. But if I were to get the "sports" deal, it's like getting cable right? Only with limited stations? I guess I'm a little ignorant on how the "sports" deal works. If you could enlighten me, I would really appreciate it.

Yes! I definitly want to get the best picture possible. All I use my TV for at the moment is for watching DVD's. So maybe I should just go for it. I just thought that the HDTV meant that it was only good for... um... TV. :)

I second the notion that it's GREAT if your primary use is DVDs. Combined with a nice progressive scan DVD player you'll notice an AMAZING difference that will be worth every cent. I say go for it; you'll never regret it and only wonder why you didn't take the plunge sooner.

If you're a sports fan, I got two words for you: ESPN HD. That's a good enough reason by itself to get an HDTV.
