Going from Cable to Dish - questions

I've figured out what I want - finally, but don't know how to get it. Here is what I want:

1. Yes Network (Yankees)
2. MSG (Met's)
3. HBO
4. Nick (Kids)
5. Cartoon Network (Kids)
6. Local Channels for New York - I am too far from the city to recieve HDTV Over The Air and am aware that no satelite plan will offer it.
7. HDTV oval dish - is it really worth it in my case?
8. I need to be able to watch 3 shows at the same time (3 recievers)

So.........Any idea how much it might cost me?

DirecTV has the Yes Network, Dish Network does not. Are there other choices?

pricing is pretty comparable for both companies, but as you pointed out, only DirecTV has yes, plus a couple of other sports packages if that interest you.

For HDTV on direcTV you'll need the sat-c oval dish and the HDTV receivers....with that equipment you'd be able to get HBO HD, SHOW HD, HDNet and an HD ppv channel.

I don't know for sure what Dish has, but I don't think they have HDNet, though they do have discovery HD.

If you decide to go with DirecTV, it would definitely be worth it to look into getting at least one Tivo.

Also, in case you weren't aware, the fee for each additional receiver is $4.99

Look at the total channel line up to determine which service is best for you. For instance, DishNetwork gives you Boomerang (commercial free from Cartoon Network) and you also get some Encore channels included in the top programming package (Top 150). The really only major difference is the channels carried, so that is what you should make your decision on.

I don't think there are any Directv deals that give you HD receivers and the non-standard oval dish for free.

You'll get 2 standard receivers a dish and standard installation for free.

$125 for the oval dish for HD
$600-$900 for the HD STB
$50 for OTA antenna for HD Network broadcasts.

Keep in mind, I don't think you can get the network stations via satellite in HD. (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) You must purchase a separate antenna to receive the OTA HD.
