Magnasonic DVD800-4

Has anyone heard anything about this DVD player. Does it have a region hack. I bought it at Costco in Canada. I can not find any region hacks for it. Does the PAL conversion on it work well?

Magnasonic DVD Players are almost impossible to identify sadly from my research. The brand isn't sold in the states (or perhaps barely is) and it appears they've assigned their own model number making it tough to pair up with what it was cloned from.

I saw these around and tried to find something but I had no luck.

I've heard Costco has a super return policy (even after 30 days) so you may want to consider getting your cash back and getting a unit that is more well known in the upgrading community.

I found out that Magnasonic is a Oritron.

I found the codes.

All codes are entered at the main menu. Codes are identical to some Koss and Oritron models, so pay attention to those for updates.

1-5-9 VCD enable, but Magnasonics come VCD enabled by default, so it's pretty useless. Only works if music CD is in the player.
1-6-7 Allows region selection, 1-6, entering zero may give region-free, but I didn't test this.
1-7-8 Allow selecting between 2-channel and 5.1 sound.
7-4-1 Dealer lock; allows the tray to be locked so that DVDs/CDs cannot be inserted/removed.
7-6-0 Displays firmware info and gives the option of firmware update.

Also note, SVCDs made using the header trick will play in this player. Not sure about bitrate limits.

Thanks for the information. Where'd you find out the Mag is a Ori/Koss make? Did you get the codes from vcdhelp.com?
