Question about the Sony 9000ES

I have read that this is a region free DVD player but when I put anything other than an R1 disc in it wont play....and I have checked the settings on the menus but can't find it...can someone who know about this DVD player tell me if I can change the settings and where to do it?

There is no way in hell that the 9000ES is region-free right out of the box. I'm not even sure if any Sony's can be hacked hardware or fimware-wise to be region free.

This thread will probably be moved to the hardware forum, so someone may know otherwise there.

I own the 9000ES. Great player, built like a tank but I'm not aware of it's ability to play discs other than R1 or R0.

Your probably thinking of the Sony DVP7000. The initial batch was released with a region and macrovision switch. Shortly after production Sony realised this and removed them from the line. I know, I have one of the initial batch.

I think you have to modify the 9000 before it comes Region-Free. How and Where? I have no idea. Haven't seen much on the net.
