View Full Version : Onkyo TX-DS595 owners - do you have this problem with your remote?

I have the Onkyo TX-DS595 ht reciever, and have had it for about a year and a half.

The remote recently started acting flaky - if I push the vol up/down button, all of the lights across the top of the unit light, but the volume won't change. If I gently tap the side of the remote, it will then work properly.

Anyone else experience this with their Onkyo TX-DS595 remote?
What's the warranty on remotes?

If the problem is only with the volume button, the contacts are probably wearing out. If you're willing to risk taking the remote apart, you might be able to fix it by repainting the contacts with a product you can buy at an auto parts store for repairing rear window defroster elements.

If you don't want to take the remote apart, you're probably better off buying a good programmable/learning remote. Onkyo charges $100 for its replacement, available here: http://www.graffitiaudio.com/details.asp?PID=122

Yeah, I hate to take it apart. I'm likely to f*** it up even worse.

Thanks for the link on the replacement - that's the remote, alright. I might have to crack and get one...

$100 -rolleyes-

If you're willing to spend that much on a remote, I'd recommend spending another $20 and getting the Home Theater Master MX-500. You can find it at www.avsmarts.com and you can get plenty of info at www.remotecentral.com . I got one for Christmas (I have the same receiver you do), and it's by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to remotes. Very, very worth the money IMHO.
