I can think of Buffy and Stargate.

Are there any other shows past or present.

MASH was a Robert Altman film first. Star Trek began as a TV series.

Besides the ones you mentioned and Clueless (The movie was better) I can't think of another show that was spawned from a movie? Does the Clerks cartoon count?

Was Private Benjamin a TV show first?

EDIT - I just remembered all the cartoons like Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story) and Tale Spin (Jungle Book), etc.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea-I thought that the tv show way out did the movie mainly from the strong acting from Richard Basehart and David Hedison.

Alice. The movie was pretty good, but just depressing as hell. Of course, what better spin off than a COMEDY series?

It started out as a book first, if anybody cares. Personally, I read it, and I got nothing out of it. Maybe it was one of those "You had to have been alive back then" things.

The only TV series I can think of that improved from the movie version is "Sabrina the Teenage Witch", and that's only because the movie sucked. Badly. Really, really badly.

Oh, and while I never actually saw "Clueless" in its entirity, I bet it was better than the TV show.

non-cartoon tv shows from movies (yes, they bombed)

Dirty Dancing, CBS

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, Fox

Uncle Buck, CBS
(starring Kevin Meaney as Uncle Buck)

Ferris Bueller
(Jennifer Aniston played Ferris' sister! Parker Lewis Cant Lose was launched the same season as a rival program)

Definitely better! In fact, the movie was actually pretty great. At first I thought it was gonna be a real stupid comedy, but it actually turned out to have some 'heartfilled' scenes (along with the goofy scenes)...overall, it was better than I expected.

Timecop. it was on ABC, don't think it made it a full season but I liked it. Can't say for sure if it was better than the movie as I've only seen the movie once and don't remember much of it, and it was on a broadcast network and edited (and I think it had van damme in it, and I hate that actor so my movie opinion could be tainted)

I fogot about those (and for good reason) I also remembered Pee Wee Herman..although the movie was better than the show...the original comedy act was the best!!!!

If I'm not mistaken, Mia Sara gets nekkid in the film; show me an ABC version that can beat that.

I don't think it's better than the Indiana Jones movies, but The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was a pretty impressive TV show.

Other than that, for good/better TV shows, I think you're left with Buffy, Stargate, Alien Nation, and (arguably) M.A.S.H.

Some TV spinoffs not mentioned:

9 to 5
Blue Thunder
Dangerous Minds
Fast Times -- (from "... at Ridgemont High")
Harry and the Hendersons
Highlander
La Femme Nikita

As already mentioned:
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer
Stargate: SG1

Now I enjoyed Honey, I Shrunk The Kids: The TV Show, mostly for the fact that the show just didn't involve people getting shrunk and they had more fun with Wayne's other inventions. Also, Scolari was a better Wayne than Rick Moranis in the films. Then again, Honey, I Blew Up The Kid and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves aren't really anything to write home about.

I also enjoyed Weird Science when it was on the air.

There's also:
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Toxic Avengers (from Troma's The Toxic Avenger)
Clerks: The Animated Series

All cartoon series spun off of live action films.

I forgot this:

Like all the other DVD Talk members, I would've loved to see Clerks make it to the air.

Yeah, you're right.

That movie was horrendous, whereas the TV show has had some inspired moments.
