before the people show up saying they hope it gets canceled and its jumped the shark...if you dont like it, dont watch it. its not like Fox will replace it with anything good, probably just reruns of another show and claim it is "all new" or some crappy special like the glutton bowl

I'll take a boring, rather unfunny episode of Simpsons over most of the stuff Fox plays, rather that be more reality crap or not.

It may not be as funny as it used to be, but there still plenty to keep me watching.

I tend to agree that the Simpsons recent seasons are not as good as some of their original ones, but there are still some great episodes from them. The worst thing now is that to get all of the seasons on DVD is going to cost a fortune!

I'll be the first negative voice. I stopped watching The Simpsons three years ago. I couldn't care less if it was renewed until 3000. The show has sucked ever since the writing staff jumped ship for Futurama.

Great news.

Gotta agree with Chew9 & Venusian. [At least until Glutton Bowl II ]

And, obviously [based on the THREAD for last week's show], what I might not find funny, others will...

How can they extend it to 2005? I'm sure they are running of out "special musical guests" to be on the show. Honestly, the past 3 years has been nothing but a crappy episode written around Band X's appearance on the show.

Atleast South Park seasons are coming out at the good clip of one every 3 months...

I'm glad very good news indeed. Love the simpsons even if the episodes are not the best. they are still better then nothing, or for that matter anything else on fox (xcept maybe for malcom and futurama)

Personally, I'd like the Simpsons to go on and on, to the point where nobody even bothers to wonder why Lisa and Bart aren't in their 30s already. That alone would be amusing.

Sure, they have clunkers from time to time, but this is still one damn funny show. I watched last Sunday's episode during lunch today (where Homer hires the P.I. to learn about Lisa) and laughed OUT LOUD 3 times, while I was completely alone. I never laugh out loud alone. So, from me, thank you FOX.

My frosted side is saying "Woo-hoo, more Simpsons"... but my shredded wheat side is saying "Damn, that's a lotta cash and DVD shelf-space down the road".

I am in kinda the same boat. I look in on the show every now and then HOPING for it to be good again, but it just isn't. I know Fox airs a lot of other crap, but I would be more impressed if they actually treated Futurama better, a far better show. I can't believe this many people are happy about this. If the writing quality isn't improving, why would you want your favorite show sputter like a dying car to the end?

That is awesome. I don't see why they can't keep going with the show. I mean, the voice actors have got to love the gig. They work maybe a few days a month and get paid a buttload. The show still draws ratings for Fox. Even if the Simpsons isn't up to par with what it was several years ago, it's still light years beyond anything on tv, for the most part.

That always seems to be the standard response which makes me wonder what people are watching. This may be considered a threadcrap, but I loved the Simpsons during the early part of its run. I own the first two season sets, and was discouraged by one of the comments made by the writers on dvd who said, "Homer's I.Q. drops by 5 points every season!" because it's so true! As for the show today, I'll admit, it has some outstanding one-liners as jokes but I'll be damned if I can remember what the story arc of any recent episode is.

In terms of situation comedy, I am really impressed with Andy Richter Controls the Universe (featuring Paget Brewster ). I also encourage everyone to give Greetings From Tucson a shot. The eppy from last Friday which actually had the brother tell his sister to "go to hell" and genuinely mean it. Sure, things turned out fine in the end, but the real familial strife and honestly making up in three acts is what has been missing from the Simpsons for the past few years.

As an aside, King of the Hill was only renewed for one season. Personally, I think that show is stronger at this point in its run compared to Simpsons at the same time (seven or so years in). IMHO, I think that show should have been renewed for two years and Simpsons for one just to keep the Simpsons producers on their toes.
