Did you ever watch the UK edition of Blood Simple ?

That's the cover art that appeared on the U.S. VHS and laserdisc releases.

Come on it's not that bad.
Did you ever watch the UK edition of Blood Simple ?
It's the worst French disc I've ever seen. I'm not comparing with other Regions/titles.
TF1 obviously knew it was terrible as it's also the cheapest retail price DVD too I've seen in France.
And yes, the UK Blood Simple is in the all-time top 5 worst DVD list.
I like the original French artwork -but either would do.

I'd be interested to hear what you thought was so bad about it. I love BF but have been putting it off since I cannot speak french and was worried about getting a crap 4x3 only pressing or something.

As I said it's the worst French disc I've seen -that doesn't mean it's anything like the worst US disc ie it's incomparable.
The main problem is the transfer as it's from well worn stock (complete with cigarette reel change burns). There's also lots of very annoying artefacts.
The disc is also faulty as there's some audio synching problems on my 2 DVD players (although this was sorted by pressing stop then play).
It's also worth noting that the subtitles are locked -although not a problem on my 2 players.

I prefer the Criterion art.

It makes you feel you are in one of these art-house cinemas.
It is worth to note that the DVD is anamorphic. The aspect ratio is 1.85 instead of 1.66. Not a big deal because as far as read somewhere the transfer of the LD version of the film was supervised by the Bro and had indeed a 1.85 aspect ratio.
Anyway I think the concern around the correct aspect ratio 1.66 or 1.85 is a bit ridiculous if you have a TV 16/9 because in all cases your picture will be 1.77
The disc is also faulty as there's some audio synching problems on my 2 DVD players (although this was sorted by pressing stop then play).
But who'll complained that the soundtrack is the original one ?

Eep. Forced subtitles. There we go. Glad I didn't order it. The CDN Amelie has forced subs so I'll have to play with it to see if I can get rid of them on my region free machine.
Where's good to order French discs btw? - I'm guessing Amazon.fr would be the easiest since the ordering system is the same but then I'm sure it'll be more $$$.
