I'd rather listen to Classical.

I like Green Day circa early-mid 90's, but the later stuff and the other bands mentioned drive me insane >

They are not my favorite by a longshot, but better than a lot of what's played on the radio (I can at least stand to listen to them).

Green Day and Sum 41 have some songs I've liked, but I never gotten anything out of Blink 182.

I think it was Marlyn Manson that made the statement that any band with a number in it's name was cr@ppy. He then went on to correct his statement and said "except for NIN".

Borders has some good classical cds on sale for half off right now, by the way. (But seriously, they do. I wouldn't have a clue of what to buy though.)

I don't think you can compare Green Day to Blink 182 and Sum 41. What happened to Blink 182 anyway? Did they finally drop off the face of the earth?

When I was younger and in grade/middle school everyoe (myself included) loved Green Day but I grew out of it. I can't stand ANY of these new so called punk bands these days.

hate them all...none of them are "punk." (Whatever the official definition is these days---I think of the Sex Pistols, myself as being "punk.")

I used to like Green Day back in High School, but have grown out of it since then. Never liked Blink or Sum.

On hiatus since the main guy is in Boxcar Racer and doing his schtick with that band right now.

I'm so goth I own Dookie.

I enjoyed that album for a couple of weeks before I sold it back to Streetlight Records. The songs all kind of sound the same and Billy Joe Jim Bob's voice is a little grating on the ears lately. And what the hell is "I hope you have the Dime of your life"? I'm sure it's supposed to be Time, but he says "Dime". Really.

I don't hate greenday and others of its ilk, but neither do I seek out their music for a good listen.

I always wince a little when I hear them being described as Punk. But that's just me. I don't think they're really punk at all. Not if they get regular airplay on adult contemporary radio stations.

I like Green Day but I could do without Blink 182. I must be getting old because I'm not familiar with any of Sum 41's music.

I would like Green Day if it wasn't for the fact that they inadvertently spawned Blink 182, Sum 41, etc.

My little sister (12 years younger...she's still in high school) recently bought a disc by a "punk" band called A Simple Plan that could be the worst of the entire bunch though. They sound exactly like Blink 182 and probably also thought that "No Pads, No Shoes...Just Balls (or whatever the hell the album's called) was a ridiculously funny album title. I keep hoping that both pop punk and rap metal will go the way of 80s glam metal soon...

Okay, I'll weigh in as well. I remember, what, 10 years ago (?) when "Dookie" came out and their first video was on MTV. I think they might have played it on 120 Minutes. I remember distinctly telling my girlfriend at the time that that was the kind of music I wish was all over the radio. Pearl Jam was popular and I couldn't stand their dead serious attitude. Had no idea that Green Day would be so popular and after all these years we'd have little clone bands. Maybe these bands don't suck, but I'm sick of them. A sound I used to love is now something I'm a bit tired of. Having said that, I'd MUCH rather listen to Blink than anything Pearl Jam spawned.... and that seems to be 85% of rock music now.

Try Kerplunk! and 1039/Smoothed out Slappy Hours. Both are far superior to Dookie.

I may not be fan of any of these three bands but there is definitely room for them in pop music. Obviousely somebody really likes them. What I do like is that there is a fun factor in these bands. There are couple of videos by these three that are funny and I can live with that.

I really like Sum 41's "Half Hour of Power". With the exception of a couple of wince-inducing lines ("what I do is what I choose which makes it my decision/if your life were a book, your story would be fiction"; going from memory, so that might be a bit off), it's one of very few albums where I don't find any fingers fidgeting towards the "Next Track" button at any point. I picked up the mistitled "All Killer, No Filler" and "Does This Look Infected?" (which sounds more like Papa Roach or P.O.D. or something than a snotty, crunchy-pop band), but neither of them really do anything for me at all. "...Infected?" includes a way to grab a few live tracks, and at the end of one of 'em, Derek says something like, "We're Sum 41, and we're something your parents will never understand!" I guess at 24, I'm not part of their target audience.

I am 26 and I like Sum 41, Blink 182, and Greenday. I really liked Dookie, but then the next album came out and it was almost identical to the first, so I skipped it... and every album since. I can listen to the music, but I don't make it a point to find it. I never have a moment when I say "I really want to listen to Greenday right now." As for the others... Blink is really cool live, and it is always fun to hear what they will say next. Granted, the various 'shocking' songs like Family Reunion are getting to be too numerous to be shocking any more, but they are still fun to listen to. Sum 41 is more of a casual listen for me. I picked up All Killer used and have yet to pick up Infected, (Honestly, the cover freaks me out.)

And Manson is dead wrong about bands with numbers... 'Cause U2 is the greatest band ever.
