I haven't heard anything else except for this, which I just saw today on ebgames.com (who got it from GameSpot:

Nintendo goes to work on next console
12/14/2002

NEC reportedly approached by Nintendo to construct a new chip for
Nintendo's next system.

According to a Bloomberg report, Nintendo has been in talks with NEC to build
a new chip that would power the successor to Nintendo's GameCube and
compete with next-generation systems from Sony and Microsoft. While NEC
executives who have not been identified have said that talks are taking place, Nintendo denies that any such discussions have occurred.

Anyone heard anything else for Sony/MS and their next consoles?

I think sony anounced their chip a while ago. I think its called "cell" and they've been working with IBM on it.

I've heard CELL technology won't be ready by the time the next generation comes out and if it does it will be extremely difficult to program for. It wouldn't surprise me to see them use some sort of other chip.

Wasn't "cell" the thing where your PS3 would work with all the other PS3's in the world for ultimate processing power or something? Kind of like the SETI thing, but for games.

Personally I see this as the Sony Hype Machine building hype and trying to sabotage the success of other machines like they did on the DC.

The heart of the Playstation3 will be a new chip (or rather chip set) developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. The companies will collectively invest more than $400 million in the next five years to design a "supercomputer-on-a-chip" for the PS3. The name for this technology is "grid" (formerly called "cell") and appears to be targeted squarely at the possibilities of parallel and distributed computing over the internet. Grid computing is a variation of distributed computing, and presumably involves networked game machines sharing software, processing power and data. Okamoto also said that networking applications including downloadable software would be integral to Sony's Playstation3 console. A recent report (May 5 2002) from the Japanese News Agency Kyodo said that the Playstation 3 would work over superfast fiber optics connections and would be Sony's first console to run games without a digital video disc. Sony also is considering offering the new chip to other companies for use in televisions and electronics equipment, Kyodo said.

Yeah I heard the next gen PS was based on a distributed computing model as well.

EDIT- I see Gallant beat me to the punch. :o
