its a bit more in depth, but newbies always welcome, and for not much money, you can build some KILLER speakers. im a frequenter there, so say hi!

I wouldn't. There are tons of speaker companies out there that spend millions on R&D and make some damn fine affordable speakers. Paradigm comes to mind.
Unless you have free drivers/wood/crossovers, it's not worth it to build your own. You can buy a great sounding set of speakers that look just as good for the same cost as the DIY kits. If you're looking to get into it as a hobby, more power to you. I love speaker construction, the best thing you can really do is follow the instructions. The correct gear to design your own crossover and mix and match drivers will definately cost you more than just buying some speakers.
