I'm looking for movies to counteract the entire 'feel good' forced emotions of the holidays.
I want cynical, bitter "F**K THE WORLD!" kind of movies. I want the kind of movie that would take a crowbar to the kneecaps of the guy ringing the Salvation Army bell in front of the grocery store.
Any recommendations? The more bitter of an ending, the better. I hate happy endings.

Yeah, NBK would be a good one. How about a Tarantino film marathon for Xmas Day.
Yeah! I'm liking that idea!
True Romance, NBK, Res Dogs, Pulp Fiction, yeah!!

Well, there's that one scene in Jacob's Ladder where the street Santa gets rolled. That's a damn good one. Dan Ackroyd gets pretty offensive as a drunk, beligerant and disorderly steet Santa in Trading Places. Scrooged is good too, but I don't think I've ever watched it to the end before, so it may have a sappy feel-good ending. Just secretly hit "stop" before it gets all mushy and crap, and go "What the hell? Gee, I guess the dvd is defective". :)
Other than that, I can't think of any off the top of my head. If you're battling staunch fundamentalist Christians, then maybe Last Temptation of Christ?

It's not that I hate Xmas. I normally love this time of year. I'm the kind of guy that would normally be watching the 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story.
This year is different. The wife and I separated, and she's taken the kids to her parent's house until after the first of the year (a little perk with her job is a paid holiday between Xmas and NYD).
So, I'm alone, mildly depressed, really not in the mood for holiday cheer. I'd be drunk, but I don't do alcohol.
That's why I want bitter movies. I don't want anti-Xmas, I don't want anything to remind me of Xmas.

Well, you could watch Michael Haneke's Funny Games and Tim Roth's The War Zone back to back. That'd be virtually guaranteed to kill any sort of positive outlook on life, Christmas-related or not. :D

I second Drexl's recommendartion of Fight Club. Definately sticks it to consumerism, therefore a lot of what Christmas is now.

My friends and family hate me because of my now constant rants about mindless consumerism, which I learned from the mentoring of Tyler Durden.
Fight Club is my inspiration for the hunt for bitter movies. Fight Club is very close to supplanting LOTR:FOTR and Star Wars as my all-time favorite movie of all time.

I second Requiem for a Dream, Man Bites Dog and Funny Games.
I love Fight Club, but it is too cheerily nihilistic for these purposes.
For a bitter, kick you in the stomach ending, what about The Last American Virgin?

Damn. I just watched The Piano Teacher today. I would have to nominate that one as well. That was just a sick movie. Very sick puppy indeed. I'll second Requiem For a Dream as well.
I didn't really care for the movie, but I would say that it's definitely not a 'Christmasy Lollipop' kinda movie.
There are 2 versions. An NC-17 and an R...
I watched the R and it was STEAMY so I can only imagine what the NC-17 version is like.

Laughably over-the-top is more like it.

With all due respect... all this joy and goodwill crap is near suicide inducing for those of us who are generally unhappy bastards. :) Watching cynical movies is a welcomed escape from the fluffy, Life is Beautiful dreck they try to shove down our throats.
So for my recommendations:
Se7en
Glengarry Glen Ross (love the cursing!)
The Wild Bunch ("If they move, kill em'!")
Point Blank

Thread reminder; keep in mind that this is not about "bitter Christmas movies", but "bitter movies in general that will keep my mind off of Christmas" movies. :)
