Need help with HDTV...

Basically I got a HDTV-ready widescreen TV about a year ago (Toshiba 57HX81) and got to thinking what it would take to get HDTV. As prices for all HD-related stuff fall, it may eventaully be a time for me to get in. I know I need some sort of receiver, however I'm not exactly sure what. I currently have digital cable, and the only things I've seen are for DirectTV.

I'm trying to find out what exactly I would need and what are the estimated prices for such a receiver. Any help you experts can provide is appreciated! Thanks!

You will also need an antenna for HDTV for OTA broadcasts.

There are three ways to get HDTV:

Sat, Cable, and OTA (over the air)

First, I would call your cable company and ask about their HDTV plans.

Then look at DirecTV's HDTV offerings:

Finally, OTA often is the best option. But it depends on where you live.

I know there is currently a few HD channels via cable, but not too many. Thanks for the heads start. Now I have to see what might be good for me. I live between Baltimore and DC by the way, so it's a fairly populated area.

Visit www.avsforum.com and search in the HDTV forums for your area. There are quite a few folks pulling in OTA signals from both Baltimore and DC. I would estimate $400 to $600 to get you going but its well worth it. Good Luck!
