The Junction Boys 12-14-02
Anyone else watch this show last night? I thought it was alright. I had hoped it would be "to be continued" or at least show some of the games they had to play. Or the very least, the one against Texas. I take it that team never won anything? Especially since the end "credits" said he won 6 championships at Alabama. Or is it supposed to be public knowledge on how that team did during those years?

I'm a little ashamed I didn't know this by heart, being an Aggie and all, but it looks like they went on to be the 1956 Southwest Conference Champions.
Doing a little poking around, apparently the show was meant more to showcase Coach Bryant, and not the A&M teams that he coached.

I thought it was good. Alot better then their last movie A season on the Brink. It wasn't supposed to be a comedy but I laughed alot during it and I know a bunch of other people who did to.

In the scene when Bear Bryant is on the plane , his voice over is debating whether or not his tough camp was worth it. The Bear is critical of himself and mentions:
1) That he wore the players down to the bone, they would win just one game in 1954.
2) Despite winning the conference in 1956, his team had just 8 of the "Junction" boys left.
Thus making game scenes pretty moot.

Not particularly accurate, but a hell of a lot better than A Season on the Brink. The way the portrayed Bear's complete neglect for medical attention was harsh and unfair. Overall, I think it did a good job capturing the heart of the story: the Junction Boys were a bunch of kids with nowhere else to go who had to endure this camp no matter what happened.
