i can't imagine how they'll be starting it up again...
it seemed like a definite ending last time, but if they lose the main plotline, then we have no show...
i have no doubts they'll start it up, but i can't imagine HOW... HOW?!
(i guess i'll be seeing in approximately 3 hours..)

Did anyone else freak out with joy in the last 5 minutes of this episode? I became positvely giddy at the Christmas party when the version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by Bruce Springsteen was played. I was so busy focusing on the song I almost missed what Ed and Lloyd were saying to eachother, but who can blame me, it's an AWESOME song.
Also, did anyone notice something a little odd that the high school had a christmas tree in the middle of the halls? At my school if anyone even mentions Christmas, there's hell to pay...

It was pretty gutsy for a guy his age and his weight to take off of his shirt for the show. Kudos.
I lit up when they played Springsteen as well. I love Springsteen and anytime a show incorporates him into it, it makes me enjoy the show that much more.
I don't like the brother much either, but after a few weeks with no new Ed, it was good enough for a quick fix.

When Lloyd put his head into the file cabinet, I was screaming at my television.
"DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah, you WEAKLING!"
And I agree that it took guts for Mark to go shirtless on national TV.
Need less lawyer-y Ed, need more romantic-with-Carol Ed. And we also need a storyline for Molls. She is too cool to be the perennial fifth wheel.

I don't care what you Lloyd haters say, I loved this episode. I think it's ironic that there is someone who annoys Ed the same way he annoys others, and Timothy Busfield does a great job of it. It's not like he comes back every week.
Lloyd wasn't the reason I thought this was a great episode though. I thought they did a good job of putting an end to the love story drama that's been driving everyone up the wall. They bump in to each other, try to be civil, and Ed decides to just do something goofy to break the tension. Voila, they go back to being buddies so they can drop all the screaming and crying for a while. Some may think it was a little too neat and tidy, but I think it worked. The 3 week hiatus helped, since we can assume it's been 3 weeks for them too, Carol doesn't have to be depressed the whole time. I was NOT looking forward to her moping for several episodes. That was one reason I was glad to see Lloyd. It was good to get a break from the soap opera.
The Vandecoor storyline was pretty good too. My guess is the actor is getting the surgery, so they wrote it in. If he does it ought to be interesting to see how fast he loses the weight.

I guess I'll disagree with everyone regarding Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". That is absolutely my least favorite Christmas song, not that I'm a fan of Bruce anyway.
However, the thread is about "Ed'. I liked the episode, but I'm glad Ed's brother is not a regular character. As for Mark, if the actor is getting gastric bypass, I say good for him. He's not just another fat teen, that kid is dangerously obese. GB is not the full answer though. If he does lose a lot of weight, he will probably need another operation to deal with the mounds of sagging skin that will result. Exercise won't be enough.
Honk!

Personally as far as holiday songs go I rather enjoyed hearing jingle bells being barked out
One of my highlights from the show.

That was a great $10 bet. I did not see that coming But I like just about all the $10 bets. Maybe in rerun season they can do a clip show and have a $10 bet montage. Some people are tired of it, but you can't drop a signature bit from the show. It would be like 24 not using split screens anymore.

As for the gastric-bypass surgery -- the actor who plays Mark had the surgery in real life (I believe in September). I saw it on one of those TV newsmagazine shows.

How weird was that having T.B. guesting on two back-to-back shows like that? Not only that, but both were the "hey, guess who's back?" variety. Coolness.
