Just wanted to know if someone can tell me if the GBA is selling well. Is it successful with all the other graphic intence consoles out there today?

It's more successful than the Gamecube and Xbox.

1 million GBAs were sold in 10 days a week or so ago in the US. It's been outselling the PS2 in Japan the last month or two.

IMO, the GBA has much better games than ANY of the 3 "big" systems.

It should do even better when that GBA game adaptor comes out for the GC.

Because people who were worried that they probably wouldn't play too much on the road would possibly feel like they'd be getting their worth out of each game now since they could play them at home on their TV's as well...
Sales of gba games go up, and sales of the GBA itself will most likely go up.

Well, I purchased two for christmas this year.
One for me(platinum) and one for my nephew(glacier).
I got in with the bundle deals so like getting the GBA for like $40/each.
My nephew (6 y/o) has gotten good with my GBC that I thought I'd suprise him with the GBA.

Speaking of which - did they ever solve the lighting problem? and whither the Afterburner?

Nintendo has not solved the lighting problem, but several aftermarket companies have done it for them. I'm not buying a GBA for myself until Nintendo releases a backlit version themselves.
I am buying the GBA adaptor for the Cube, there's a lot of games I'd play more if I didn't have to squint.

It depends which lighting problem you're talking about. The first batch of games released with the GBA's launch were too dark. All games since then have been brighter. The GBA itself is not backlit though. You either need sunlight, a lamp, or an attachable light which can be bought separatley.

Although I've heard some of the games are very good, it's still just a hand held game system. Aren't the games all really short?
I'd find it hard to believe that any of them would be in the same ballpark as regular system games....

The games are pretty much the same lenght as SNES/Genesis Era games.
For example, Castlevanie Circle of the Moon probably netted me around 15 hours of play time, and that's with just playing through once, not screwing with the battle arena, or playing through again in magician mode and what ever else is available after beating it.. I'm about 10 into the sequel so far, and probably somewhere around 75-80% done.

I have one, my girlfriend has one, EVERY one of my nieces and nephews have one except two of them. And I bought them GBAs for XMas. :D Just from first hand (completely statistically irrelevant) observation Id say it may be doing better than the PS2. Definitely outdoing the Cube and Box.

The games are not short. At least the 6 I own. I obsessed on Sonic all summer, brought him poolside just about every day and I didnt get everything I could have out of it. These are not Tetris time killers on the whole. These are full-on deep games in most cases.

You can't really compare sales of a Handheld with the sales of a console. They're two entirely different animals.
There are 3 major consoles out right now, but only one handheld. Even if all of the GBA games sucked, it would still sell well because it's the only one out right now.
I'm hoping Sony will make a handheld based on the Mini Disc or something along those lines. :)

Ditto for me too, and I had an original gameboy and then a gameboy color, but I refuse to buy a new gameboy until Nintendo provides one with some type of internal lighting.

When they do release a GBA with internal lighting, people will complain about battery life.
They system will most likely be bigger too, in order to house a couple more batteries.

That sounds like a cool idea. How much storage space is on a mini disc?

Short?
Depends I guess. I try to 100% or more games like Castlevania and Metroid Fusion, so I get plenty of play time. I got a lot of playtime out of the RPGs as well.
I've heard Kirby is pretty short, but overall length of playing time hasn't been a problem for me.

140 MB for data.
Now a miniDVD can hold upto 4.95 GB. That would be the TurboExpress killer I've been waiting for.

I got a 'floodlight' for my GBA and its fine. I got my GBA for $30 so im not complaining. A backlit one might be around $100 for the first year its released.

I bought my GBA on Black Friday this year and it is all I want to play now. I haven't even picked up a controller for my PS2 or GameCube since then. I'm hooked on Yoshi's Island right now because I never played it on the SNES, it is a totally new game for me and it is great! I just bought Zelda: A Link to the Past and am considering buying Tomb Raider after reading a few good reviews on it.
