DVD Players at Best Buy?

Hi...

My main player has slowly gone to shame. My service plan will now allow me to swap it out with one of equal or lesser value. (or anything above I pay difference.)

It was worth $299.99, so that's how much I have to work with at Best Buy. Online, the top models are the JVC 7-disc FA-900 and the Sony NS-755V. I know nothing about these models. The JVC is $279. The sony is $249. I don't know if there are other players in the store or not.

But any advice on these or others at BB that I should look at would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Viewing while I wait to get a new player.

*According to the Best Buy website*, the Sony 755 plays SACDs, while the JVC 7-DVD player plays DVD-Audio discs. Whichever one of those formats you think is better may also be a factor in your decision.

if you COULD, get the money back and buy a Denon DVD-900. the quality compared to the sony will blow you away, and it plays dvd-audio. its $290. but if you gotta go with best buy, get the sony.

well if those are the only ones to choose from I would get the Sony.

I might take the hit and get the panasonic RP62 myself.

Consider the Toshiba SD-4800 as well. Yes, you will be taking a hit $$ wise, but it is a real nice player, with zooming, not as visible chroma bug as the Sony, and also does DVD-A. Just another player to consider...

If you have a few hundred dollars you can spare, now is a great chance to pick up a DVD recorder like the Panasonic DMR-E30.

If not, the Panasonic RP62 and the JVC 7-disc are nice choices.

I definitely second this. I just picked this one up a week ago and am 100% happy with it. It's a steller progressive scan player with tons of useful feautres + DVD-A to boot (which is excellent). Yes, it only holds 1 DVD, but I personally don't mind getting off my chair every once in a while...

thanks for all the input.

i've already got a dvd-recorder on my computer and i'm not going to get a component one.

it seems that the consensus is for the sony, so once they greenlight my exchange i'll pick that one up.

it's a shame that it doesn't seem like they have a very good selection, but maybe that's just because it's best buy.

thanks again.

I think Panasonic has some very good DVD players for the price. The ones at Best Buy only have an optical digital out though. Might want to at least give them a look.

i got the Panasonic CV52 5 disc dvd changer. component and digital out it works great for me and looks awesome on a sony 27" wega with 16:9 squeeze and monster component cables. it was only $179.

in 2-3 years when i get a HDTV i'll definitely consider panasonic progressive scan dvd players
