America Undercover - Cathouse (The Moonlite Bunny Ranch)
Very cool special. HBO is the king of documentaries, and this was another in a long line of really interesting specials. I'm a proponent of legalized prostitution, and I've been aware of some of the different sanctioned brothels in Nevada, but it was interesting to get at least a glimpse of what the operation is like (more than Dave Attell's visit during Insomniac). I couldn't believe some of the people that went in there; the mom and her son was the craziest. They said he was 22, but he looked at least 30. The pimp was pretty funny too.
I don't know where these people get $1000+ for sex -- it looked like we were into life savings territory with some of those guys.
I was a little surprised at how "low tech" everything was. The lady in the back had a dry-erase board and a bunch of egg timers. And they didn't have the equipment to charge a transaction more than $9999.
I wasn't really paying attention, but I think they said STD tests every week and AIDS tests every month.
Anyway, pretty interesting special. At least from what they showed, it was a positive experience for everyone involved. HBO's not too keen on looking the other way, so I'd imagine if there was a "seedy underbelly" to the operation, they would have given us a taste of it.
Anyone else catch this tonight?

I love America Undercover. I am soooo happy it's back for a new season.
Seriously, could you imagine paying 500 bucks just to watch??? WTF? That sounds like a rip off to me.
I too am a proponent of legalize prostitution. The way I look at it (and as it was mentioned in the show), they have virtually no cases of STDs at the bunny. I don't think they can say the same about the 'working girls' of Baltimore.
The manager/owner also brought up a good point when he said they run probably the cleanest business in the state because they are scrutinized the hardest.
That one husband and wife made me a little sick. The husband seemed proud of the fact he pushed his wife into going to the bunny. What a jerk.
Great show nonetheless though. I always found AU does a great job of laying the info out and letting you come to your own conclusion. They don't really seem to be for one side or the other.
Oh yeah, and for as much money they bring in, they are very low tech. I mean for crying out loud, you could at least splurge and get some digital egg timers.
And the old guy who said he was good with his tounge. Man, I didn't know whether to laugh or yack.

Hilarious stuff. I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. The situations where just so bizarre, yet so true. At the end when the truth was revealed to the Anniversary Couple, that was freaking balls-to-the-wall funny.

This is the first AU show I've seen... WOW!! Some of the girls seemed a bit out of it, but most seemed to be fairly intelligent people. There were a couple of really good looking ones too, including a couple of younger looking ones (like the girl who thought she was going to be applying to be a stripper) that I would have liked to see... ahem... more of

I usually love this kind of stuff...but i don't know - this one was just a bit beyond the pale for me. It was just so freaking disturbed watching that loser have his mom pay to pop his cherry. I just found myself growing more and more uncomfortable watching it....and i'm about the furthest thing from a prude. I guess there are one or two things in life i'd rather remain a mystery - and watching a smarmy pimp trying to woo a hooker away from a brothel is one of them

It was pretty good... at the end I saw it was taped in March and April of 2002... That's right when I was in Vegas! My friend said if we hit it big we were going there... too bad we didn't!! lol!

Yep - I watched it too. I was also surprised at how low-tech it was. I expected it to be some sort of shrine in the middle of the desert, when in fact it turned out to be an ordinary rambler with a front gate and yes...egg timers.
Good to see this show back - it always makes for interesting television.

I don't have a problem with legal prostitution..well I do with the prices 
... but for anyone to say there's no STD's is not honest.
There MAY BE less STD spread(a good thing) than the streetwalkers but there is some spread going on. i.e. As many of you know latex condoms don't protect you from HERPES. There are other stds that could bypass their safety measures.
It's like in the PORN INDUSTRY. I read an article in a VERY LIBERAL magazine(they had NO anti porn agenda) about how when porn performers get AIDS, and it does happen, the industry turns it's back on them and it becomes a "hush hush" thing.
Can you imagine what happens to some girl working in a Legal Brothel? She is probably let go faster than you can blink and I doubt any numbers are kept on stds spread .

The Howard Stern TV Show on E! tonight at 11:00 pm ET (with a re-air at 2:00 am ET or 2:30 am ET-I forget when they re-air the 11:00 pm show) will have part #2 of the "Freaky Feud" where three members of the Bunny Ranch face off against three New York City Hoes. Representing the Bunny Ranch were "Sunset", "Air Force Amy" and one other girl. (The "Hoes" won the first two rounds and were winning 122-0 when Part #1 ended last night.)

That's my point and the point of the article. It's an issue they DON'T talk about openly. It is hushed up to keep the industry out of critical light.

My mouth dropped when I heard the first girl tell the mom and son it was $1000 an hour. Good lord that's expensive. I found the whole thing pretty bizarre...the girls and the management spent so much time justifying how "normal" they were that it came off as anything but. The tea party was really bizarre...25 "working girls" playing a game normally reserved for little girls...kinda creepy.

I love how the Bunny place can pull in $700,000 in a month and yet they can't afford a decent computer system with timers and the works.
That Dennis Hof may be a sleazeball but he knows how to succeed in business.
Having that Debbie secretary or whatever doing everything that would cost a ton in equipment.

$30K/week means 60 hours/week at $1K/hour (givne 50% goes the the rance). Somehow, some of them might have to get getting $1.5K/hour to get to that lofty pay/week. That's a whole lot of copulating!
