I've never really understood why "My Favorite Things" was considered a Christmas song. Was the Sound of Music set during Christmas (I was in a production of it in high school, but cannot remember)? I guess maybe there's some connection between "favorite things" and "presents."

Robbie Williams' song "Angels" was a CHristmas no. 1, and is featured on a good few Christmas compilations. Yet it hasn't anything to do with Christmas, or even winter.
Though it does have jingling bells.

I was actually going to post "My Favorite Things." I don't understand the connection either.

"Dream A Dream (Elysium)" by Charlotte Church and Billy Gilman. Great song, but nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.
And there was a "Christmas" video version of Vanessa Williams' Save the Best For Last... if I remember correctly, the lyrics were the same, the video was different.
I have tons of Christmas songs. I will dig through them a little. I checked a few lyrics out and some I thought had nothing to do with Christmas have just the briefest mention of the holiday.

Best Buy had a free christmas songs cd in stores the other day for reward zone members.
One song on there doesn't make sense to me. It's Elton John singing Making Whoopie
I didn't quite get the christmas connection on that one.
And when thinking of christmas songs, I wouldn't think of that one.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Wow, while I'm a BIG fan of Travis, you really do need to check out the original. It's one of her best songs.

"Nature Boy" plays on the Christmas loop at work, but I've never understood why this is considered a Christmas song. It has religious overtones, but it isn't about the holiday.

It's funny, a lot of these you really don't think about as not actually being about Christmas until it's pointed out.

Okay, I'll be the first naysayer.
"Little Drummer Boy" is about bringing gifts to baby Jesus, and so qualifies as a Christmas song.
"Jingle Bell Rock" includes the lyric "dancing and prancing" [a nod to Dancer and Prancer], thus barely qualifying.
Joni Mitchell's "River" starts out with the following "It's coming on Christmas/They're cutting down trees/They're putting up reindeer/And singing songs of joy and peace/I wish i had a river/I could skate away on." Not a very christmassy sentiment, but still Christmas.

Yeah, I was scratching my head, too, when I read the "Little Drummer Boy" post last night. That's definitely a Christmas song.
One that I just thought of appears on a few Christmas comps: "Song for a Winter's Night" by Gordon Lightfoot (or the remake by Sarah McLachlan). The title of that song says what it is.
