Figures, Lucas is to blame! I think DeNiro is just not picking the right roles there are plenty of fine films still out there with characters he could play.

Goodfellas and Casino are redundant? I don't think so.

De niro wants to do something different. he is hitting and missing a lot more. thats the risk you take when you uh.. take risk. But again, if he continues to take risk he might land in a role that will be just perfect for him.

besides, De Niro's a actor like arnold. they fit a role and no matter what they want to move to, they will still be perfect for those specific roles.

I thought he was good in Ronin and The Score.

Still, odd that he'd go in a film like Meet the Parents...

Just like it's odd how Robbin williams does films like 1 hour photo? actors get tired of there roles they are typecasted. a good change every now and then can help a lot.

I have really gained alot of respect for Robin Williams for this exact reason, he may have had a few misses trying to find his way to the more serious side of film (What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams) but I think his latest efforts have been very impressive for the most part. I found myself really feeling for him in 1 Hour Photo, he created this character that you instincts tell you to dislike, but really you just feel bad for him you want him to be happy ..... I think it was a wonderful performance.

It is just my opinion, but Hollywood has separated itself into two halves, the blockbuster and the indie flick. One is market-tested, scripted accordingly and marketed like the Second Coming. The other is introspective, dark and sometimes too self-aware.

There used to be a time, when these two types of movies could meet together on screen. But that time has passed. But if I we're to take a bet on who would be more succesful intellectually, i'd bet on the latter.

Jack, I guess you are right there. I guess he wanted to do something fun. I don't know, when it gets to thing like Showtime though... it's kind of scary :)

It's not just your opinion, it's the absolute TRUTH.

I can't believe no one ever mentions "This Boy's Life" with Leo. He was the perfect abusive a-hole stepfather. I don't know everyone just hates this movie or just wants to ignore. That was actually one of my first experiences with Deniro.

Absolutely, but it's not a new thing...there was a concious effort in the past to make movies that were the opposite of Hollywood films.

I saw bits on TV once. I didn't even know it existed before then. He was very good in it.
