I was wondering if a hdtv would be able to work with a normal dvd player. I know that you get a better picture when using a progressive player, but say my father in law got a new HDTV and has a older player would it work, or would he have to upgrade the player to be able to view dvd's. Also, do you have to use component cables to use a progressive scan player?

Next question, I have a 32" JVC tv (32d501) that has 800-line resolution capability. How do I get it to display 800 lines? Do I need to upgrade to a progressive player to be able to get the most benifit from my TV? I am thinking that by going to a progressive type player that I would then be using the 800 lines of resolution.

Last one... Will a progressive player work on a normal tv. Say I do upgrade my player, will I be able to use it on a smaller tv using a s-video connection, or will it send to much of a signal for a regular type of TV?

The older player will work on an HDTV set...you just need to use the appropriate inputs and outputs. I don't know if you have to use component cables to get progressive output though...I think it depends on the player and I would think that most of them use the component outputs for the progressive signal.

Don't know about the 800 line/TV question.

Yes a progressive player will work on a normal TV, though you might have to change some of the settings in the DVD player setup menu.
