the best inexpensive xbox games

I picked up an XBOX for my son for Christmas and would like some recommendations on the $20.00 and less bargain games. Trying to fill his stocking with games but not all at $50.00 a pop....

I got the Sega bundle,Halo,Madden NFL 2003, DVD remote and the live kit with memory card. I guess I should pick up some good online games too....I know that might cost more than the $20.00.

I'm just trying to be the best Santa I can be....Thanks, Ed

damn, I wish you were my santa.

I loved Oddworld, which I've seen for cheap. It's a niche game, but fun and challenging. A good one especially if he has an appreciation for the stranger things in life.

SSX Tricky and Tony Hawk 3 are both $19.99 at Best Buy. I'd take these in addition to the others people have listed, as they are all quality titles.

x-dirthead like someone else said try popping into any EB affiliated stores between now and x-mas. Every once and a while they have sales on used games. Like buy 2 get 10% off, 3 15%, 4 or more 20%. They are all in excellent playing condition and they reseal them just like new if you ask them to. Kids dont really care as long as they have a ton of games to play :-). They had a bunch of $25 -$30 games plus the money off.

Last time i the sale happened i picked up NFL2k3, Buffy and Crazy Taxi 3

Amped is a good game. Also check amazon marketplace or half.com if you don't mind used stuff.

i also agree that amped is a very very fun game, especially for kids, and its 15-20 dollars at most places, plus circuit city matches prices. i would recommend blood wake if u are looking for a game that calms one down. i mean dont get me wrong, its lots of shooting, but it gets repetitive, but still gun if ur lookinf or somethin easy to do when tired.

Kellehair, I don't think those games are $20 anymore (you are referring to the CC sale right?)... if so, I'll pick up RSC (don't say Target as that is YMMV and all the ones near me have it @29.99).

xrdirthead, if I were you, I'd exchange Madden 2003 for NFL2k3. Personally I feel it is a better game, but aside from that, since you are getting Live, you'll be able to play 2k3 online whereas you cannot w/Madden.

And lots of good $20 games out (Oddworld, Amped, Fusion Frenzy (say what you will, but I think it is a good "party" game for $20). Also get those gamer GCs at BB and use the $5 coupon to get em all for $15.

You can also try Costco. I think most of their games are $19.99 especially all the sports titles from last year. For example Madden 2002, NBA 2K2, etc. and of course other games.

Buffy is $30 almost anywhere. I know this is $10 more than you asked for but this game outclasses most others listed and is one of the best games on the system IMO. Not to mention that it isn't a last years sports title.

XRDIRTHEAD ... it would be most helpful if you could give us your son's age ... I'm guessing if you're picking up Halo, that he can take some pretty gruesome sights, because it is M for a reason.

If he's grade-school, I'd suggest returning Halo, and going for some of the less violent platformers like Crash Bandicoot. I second the call for Fuzion Frenzy ... excellent for quick multi-player!

For middle-school, the driving games are great ... Rallisport is a good choice, as is Proj. Gotham. Be sure to keep your eyes on Ebay ... you'll see Target's bundles of Rallisport + hint book for less than $20 up there. Tony Hawk 2X is very cheap yet good, and TH3 should be very inexpensive as well.

For high-school, then yeah, Halo is where he needs to be.

A few other excellent but cheap games for middle or high school ... Jet Set Radio Future, Cel Damage, Amped, SSX, DOA3.

If he wants adventures ... Nightcaster is so-so, Azurik is a little better, but I'd probably go with something anyone could like such as Obi-Wan or Oddworld.

Check some stores that sell used CD's and DVD's. There's one I go to that is now selling supposedly used PS2 and XBox games. I say "supposedly" because I have seen some games that are new (still with shrink wrap and official security stickers) but are sold as used.

This place sells games cheaper than most stores that specialize in used video games. I got NBA2K3 a few weeks ago for $29.99.

Just the other day, I also picked up a new copy of Blinx for just $24.99. It also had a sticker on the front for a free game rental at Blockbuster which is what, a $5 value at least?

I saw Buffy for $20 at Wal-Mart.

Great suggestions...this forum is great!
I let him play GTAIII, Ghost Recon, and Allied Assualt on his PC so I guess he'll be ok with Halo.
