http://212.239.44.227/index.cgi?sid=...ett&arti=24213
I just found Pirates to be released soon in Italy but it's not widescreen.
Does anyone know if this title is available on dvd anywhere in widescreen?
Thanks
John

"...but it's not widescreen..."
...what makes you think that?... the linked dvdit site states: "Video Format: 16:9"... now this might mean 2.35:1 anamorphic (according to the IMDb the movie was "Filmed in Panavision") ... or it might mean that - for the transfer to DVD - the film has been 'cropped' to a widescreen-TV-friendly 1.78:1 (=16:9) (not unusual, these days, at least with R2/Europe DVDs)...
...fyi: the German DVD is indeed anamorphic 2.35:1 - BUT - German subtitles are 'locked' when the (DD 2.0) English soundtrack is selected...
...the Australian DVD is an ugly 1.33:1 p&s affair... so is the Danish DVD...

For the little story and quite oddly this movie was played on the pay channel Canal Plus prior its theatrical release.
Being quite a fiasco the producing company tried to raise some money by showing around the pirate boat (full of electronics).
Well, at least it became a popular figure of Cannes....
