Question Re: MGS 2: SOL - Greatest hits

I just picked up Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PS2 on the greatest hits line. I was enjoying the opening cinemas when I noticed that the first movie after you start the game had no sound at all. The vibration function was working, but no sound. After the cutscene was over, the audio came back.

Is this part of the game, do I have a bad copy of the game?

Thanks!

Did you set your audio to 5.1 output when you don't really have 5.1 output?

My best guess is that you have the option for Dolby Digital 5.1 (which is played in cutscenes) enabled in the Options menu on the game. I wonder if this is the default in the Greatest Hits release, because it was not in the original release.

This would be the best explaination I can give for the audio dropping out. Switch it to stereo and you should hear everything again.

My memory of the cut scenes is hazy so this is iffy at best.

I think one of those cutscenes is in Dolby Digital. So if you have DD out enabled on the PS2 without being connected to a DD receiver, then it will be silent on that scene. So, you can disable the DD on the PS2 or connect to a DD receiver (and enable it if it doesn't automatically switch).

Give it a shot, 50/50 chance.

3 for 3. That's good odds.

That was it. Thank you very much. I play my games on an old pro logic reciever, and I switched it without reading what I was switching.

I'm glad you can get it working - the music in the opening is my favorite in the game. Love that Williams!
