I bought the samsung ota receiver but my other half made me take it back because it only picks up 7 channels,i have dish tv but i dont want to spend that much for the 6000 box and extra antenna ,ect.Anyways my question is ,if i bought a directtv box that is hd ,could i use it just to pick up hd ota signals with my house antenna,i dont want to subscribe to direct, the only reason i ask this is because i run into hd direct tv boxes at a swapmeet near me ,at half the price of the samsung.

I've got the Toshiba St-3000, and it works fine as an OTA receiver. I had it set up that way before I got my triple LNB dish.

If you buy the box used you'll be able to use it however you want, the ota part will work fine. The only time you have to pay for the subscription to get the box is if you buy it new (and, from what I've seen, only from certain stores).
