Resident Evil 0 not advertised
Has anyone noticed that Resident Evil 0 was not advertised at all in this week's circulars? Strange for a high profile title isn't it? Is it still due out this week?

Supposedly it's due out this wednesday.
That may be a bad sign that this isn't getting talked about at all... does this mean it may not have lived up to expectations? I'm thinking I'll read reviews before I purchase

Extended Play on TechTV had footage of the train level for their preview on the game, and I must say I wasn't impressed. The controls looked like they've ignored all the improvements over the last few RE releases, the train level design looked unforgiving, and the gameplay of switching between the two characters looked pretty clumsy.
Granted, this could be the E3 build of the game, but I must say I'm glad I didn't buy a GC for it.

So, no hype = bad game? Give me a break!
Not that this game has gone completely unadvertised...I've been seeing full-page ads for months.

EGM gave it a very favorable preview.
IGN says its looking great and much better then any other version to date.
They have chosen to use the same controls however.
The next in the series do out next year is going to be in complete 3d with new controls. IF you are a fan of the RE series you will like Zero.

I'm pretty excited about this game, it'll be the first totally new installment of RE in a long time, I'm expecting the same controls and such, but its never been an issue and i've always enjoyed the story and atmosphere of the game.

If the majority didn't like the controls, please explain why they continued to buy the sequels and why this series has become one of the most successful in videogaming history?

Capcom was having financial woes, so maybe they're hoping it will sell well without a huge advertising campaign. I mean it's a huge series and most fans probably already know when it's coming out. I"m sure we'll see some more ads as it gets closer to it's release and especially closer to X-mas.
Personally I'll be skipping this one. I just can't deal with the control anymore. I ignored it and enjoyed the previous games to some extent, but when trying to replay the remake a 2nd time after playing Eternal Darkness, i just said "screw it, I shouldn't be fighting the controls all the time."

Plus the first sold out it's first weekend and shipments were low for a while making it hard to get. The initial positive demand of the last game is what they may be counting on, and then kick in the advertising once the game is easily available.

Sales don't equal quality.
I really enjoyed the first couple of REs back in the PSone days, but the series is beyond stale for me at this point.
Hopefully Capcom will completely overhaul the series for RE4.

I've had the import demo for a couple months now. Very fun, and great graphics. I haven't had this much fun playing a demo over and over since getting the 1st Metal Gear Solid demo years ago.
Switching between the 2 characters at any time is a nice twist, and makes you 'think' a bit more throughout the game.
Example: In the demo you have to use a dumbwaiter to get a key from person A to person B... otherwise you can't progress further.
And just to let everyone know.... the controls are the same as the older RE games (which means 'up' is always 'forwardd' to your character). Some people like em'... some don't. I do.

It seems, according to the reviews, the quality of the series has remained consistent throughout the years.
And Capcom has stated that RE 4 would indeed feature some kind of new direction for the series. Although many RE fans are concerned that if the changes are so radical, then RE 4 might not feel like a RE game. Time will tell.

I said the series was stale FOR ME. I didn't say that the games were of low quality. The franchise is not the seller that it used to be FWIW.
As for the games:
I don't like the control scheme at all.
I don't like the "puzzles."
I don't like the incessant backtracking approach to level design.
I do like the idea of a survival horror game where it isn't just about killing everything you see.
The first couple of games were something different way back when and I thought they drastically improved from 1 to 2. After that it seems like they just quit trying. Other survival horror games (ED being the most recent) have honestly tried to improve, while RE has not IMO.

IGN gave it a lower score than ReMake.
Presentation
Frightening and realistic all around. Some of the menu work is sloppy. 9.0
Graphics
Beautiful. Photo-realistic textures combine with amazing full motion animation backgrounds and foregrounds. Slick animation for monsters, but stiff for hero movement. Not full 3D for real camera. 9.0
Sound
Atmospheric. Nicely done all around. Capcom uses silence at times, too, to scare, which is brilliant. No DPLII support. 9.0
Gameplay
Still scary. Still fun, if you can forgive the clunky controls and stupid puzzles. But definitely dated. 7.0
Lasting Appeal
As usual, there are enough hidden goodies to keep coming back for more. 6.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 8.2

I've kind of lost some of my excitement over this game. I enjoyed the RE remake, but I will probably wait for this one to drop in price. With Metroid Prime coming every other game will have to take a backseat for awhile.
