Easily Baldur's Gate. Hunter is in the ballpark though.

Like others have mentioned, Baldur's Gate is the closest thing you can get right now. Especially if you're after that RPG element to all the hacking and slashing.

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance is really really fun as well as being beautiful AND very similar to Diablo.

Much better graphics than Diablo II but is all dungeon crawl if that matters to you.

Is there anything on the horizon closer to Diablo than BG?

I'm surprised that Dungeon Siege hasn't been ported to the Xbox, considering that it's a Microsoft product.

A sequel to Dark Alliance is on the way, as well as another D&D game, D&D Heroes.

They'd have to dumb it down a bit. I don't think the xbox has the hardware wherewithal to run Dungeon Siege. That's not an xbox slam -- I'm a happy xbox owner.

I used to run DS with a P3 550 with Voodoo 3000. Granted the frame-rate isn't the best (consistent), but with some details turned down, it was relatively smooth and still looks very good. I think Xbox can do this well, but it is such a boring game, hehe.

Yeah, that's what I meant my "dumb it down" -- lower resolution, fewer objects on screen, less polys per object. It's a really processor and ram intensive game.
