New 64-bit Portable by Ericsson : "Red Jade"

- Ericsson announced they will launch a new 64-bit mobile game machine called Red Jade in 2003. The Red Jade will have a 64-bit CPU, which can process 3D polygon graphics, with a quality between PSone and N64. Here are the specs:

64-bit CPU
3D polygon graphics
Multi-channel PCM Sounds
TFT LCD display, 65536 colors
Mobile phone rechargeable battery
Blue Tooth technology enable wireless communication between 2 or more machines
Download game titles from secured game servers
Retail price will be less than US$100

As long as it's backlit...

Maybe this will be a good change for them since the mobil phones they make kinda suck.

Er.. I read an article on CNN.com a while back that said this thing was cancelled.

If it was under $100 and had good developer support, I think it'd at least be the first real competition with the gameboy.. but at 200-300 bucks(from the CNN article).. it'd be in a different (much smaller) market.

That could be sweet. Though I have reservations about 3D gaming on a small screen. Small screens are fine for 2D games, but I'd think 3D games would cause more problems. It would be something I definitely have to play before buying anyway.
