As if these people even listen to what people have to say- they just put the feedback forms up so you can feel like you actually told them something. If they ever read these things there'd be no onscreen logos on any channel!

Hey, the system works: I requested that they become the "All Halloween 4 All the Time" network, and they have!

Even though they are starting to become TNT (showing the same film over and over, AMC does put some okay films on. So I give them that, but you have the Halloween 4 thing as an example....which is something I put in the con box.

I wasn't too big on the older films from the 30s and 40s since those are my things...so that is a pro.

Hey if I don't want to watch AMC, I flip over to TCM....I guess.

The plain fact of the matter is that TCM beat them at their own game (showing vintage films.) They're kind of grasping for an identity now. I don't think their current incarnation, basically "Fox Movie Channel with commercials", is exactly the way to go. With TCM, FMC, IFC and Sundance on my system, I find that I absolutely can't stand commercial interruptions these days, so my watching of my old high brow faves A&E, AMC and Bravo is almost nil.

i don't know about everybody else but for me it's because they used to show classic movies from the 20s-30s to the 60s commercial free. then they caved in and started showing a few commercials. then they abandoned the classics and started showing more recent movies. now they have a ton of commercials instead of just a few AND they slice the movies up.

they showed robocop like a million times lately and they totally chopped murphy's deatch scene out. now true, i understand that it was really violent but i am a firm believer that if you are going to show a movie, show it UNCUT!!!

I laid into them about 2 weeks ago on that site. No response. I said thier network lately looked like "A rain delay on WGN"

Robocop 6 times a day? Speed?!?! Speed: Backstory!?? Predator 2?! ....

Horrible. Try some actual classics.

Editing films
No longer showing classic films
Showing the same lame movies over and over
Having commercials (tons of 'em actually)

Basically for becoming a TBS/TNT clone and moving completely away from what made them AMC in the first place.

It's sort of like if the Sci-Fi Channel canceled all of their science fiction programming and started showing infomercials and lame reality shows.

Oh, wait a minute...

Same here - AMC was one of my prime viewing channels for several years - but now I don't even check their listings any more!

They shouldn't edit the films at all. If they don't want swearing, sex or killing on their channel they should stick to the classic films they were showing in the first place. I don't know why they bothered showing The Godfather if they are going to chop it up. They need to change their name.

Didn't a new study come out a few days ago that said e-mails to major companies is mostly a waste of time?

They said very little if any "feedback" gets attention. Again, I think it was focusing on the Net and email.

With that said....

Maybe AMC should go SUBSCRIBER BASED like HBO to shut you babies up????

Don't get me wrong, I see your point. I saw Predator on AMC and wondered Why.....

But at the same time they have an obligation to SHAREHOLDERS not YOU and your snotty Jim Ladd-ish "No stuff after '65"

In the long run, you don't succeed by pandering to the LCD and kicking your viewers in the groin.

FMC shows films uncut and isn't subscriber based. Actually, TCM, (while being careful not to show, say, Scarface or Emmanuelle), shows films unedited.

I really enjoy seeing The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three and The Bad News Bears unedited, myself.

The argument over classic vs. contemporary films aside, did anyone catch Halloween II on AMC tomight? Hacked to pieces doesn't begin to describe it. On top of that, it was a lousy, speckly print. And some genius had decided to edit the scene with Lance Guest's character looking around and slipping in the blood into the final sequence with the oxygen and explosion. Gawd, what a mess!

I take it you're not huge a fan of the Halloween series or you just don't realize what it is you watched- which is the "TV Version", a version that hasn't been seen in about 10 years (if not longer). Nothing wrong with either, of course.
As far as the "genius"...that would be Director Rick Rosenthal, since what is refered to as the TV Version is also tagged by some as the "Director's Cut". Except for the edits for objectionable material, the way it was shown on AMC was how the movie was intended to be seen. Carpenter is the one that flopped the scenes around, removed some, added the gore and created the movie most are familiar with. So you're in good company thinking this version was a mess, Carpenter did too.

That's the "TV Version" of Halloween II. It's actually a bit of a rarity. It doesn't get shown often any more. Here's a detailed description of the changes:

I'm a big fan of Carpenter and of the first two films. I just had never seen or heard about the mangled version I saw last night. I assumed a TV version would only edit out the gore and maybe clip a scene or two (like most other TV edits) and not be a virtual revisioning of the film. Bizarre stuff.

Dear AMC Viewer:

Thank you for contacting AMC. Our viewers are very important
to us. Please be assured that your opinions are appreciated
and noted.

As we face pressure from rapidly rising costs, the introduction
of commercials has become a necessary reality in order to
maintain and expand AMC's superb library of programming. By
adding advertising we are able to provide new and better movies
and original programming to our viewers. We've tried to place
the commercial breaks so there's as little disruption of the
movies as possible. We hope you will understand and continue
to enjoy AMC.

If you would like more information about programming, scheduling
and insights into the movies we love please visit us on the web
at amctv.com.

AMC reviews all comments and suggestions so that our programming
reflects our viewer's requests. Your input is a valuable tool
in helping us to make AMC even better.

Sincerely,

AMC Viewer Services

If you really want to send a message to AMC about their programming, don't waste your time writing them. You need to write your cable provider, and tell them to please drop AMC off the basic package. Cable providers are always looking to keep cost down, and trying not to raise rates (competition from the satellites).

Having a major conglomerate like Time-Warner drop AMC from their programming would speak volumes!
