Picked her up yesterday for $2,400.
The engine is not that great, but it runs. I just gave her a pretty nice tune-up: adjusted the valves, new spark plugs, cahnged oil and new coolant. Coolant flush is in right now until tommorrow. I don't want to put to much $$ into this engine since a GSR is going in shortly =)

First thing I'm going to look into for her are two new mirrors. Nothing really fancy / cheesy, just nice looking

Note where she is parked :D In the driveway. Parents didn't say anything about it. I have a feeling it will be in the garage shortly getting the transplant (B18C1) ....watch out Ricers, that goes for the mustang Gt's / Camaro Z28's too!!!

Easy on the bunk bed jokes -- Remember I have an 8k car that I can sell at any time and buy a house ;) ....just a thought.

Oh, I just consider people that fix up their imports (e.g. Civics, Integras, etc.) "ricers." That would have made me one too, back in college, when I fixed up my Civic. :)

I don't think you can buy a house for 8k.... don't forget property taxes, utilities, mortgage, groceries, assoc. fees, etc...

property taxes alone will cost you a civic a year. But hey, at least you will be able to get to your bunkbed .2 seconds faster than the other guy gets to his own place.

Hey man, it's not just about material possessions (e.g. how many cars you own). And there's something to be said for living in a "nasty apartment complex" IF you're struggling and paying the rent yourself, IMHO. I don't live in a great apartment, nor is it in a great neighborhood, but I'm proud because I'm the one signing all the checks to pay for all the bills.

Interesting you think you can really take a V8 sportscar with that? How?

Let's say for example a late model Corvette.

Nah, a ricer will have stickers, those chrome / red taillights (altezzas), chrome led wiper lights that ligth up at night (very cool  ), stickers, usally some kind of BIG wing, and they swear all that made their car fast as hell :(

I would hardly call a grocery getter that can run the 1/4 mile in less than 14 seconds a ricer :)

True. I consider there to be two reasons to fix up a car:

(1) To make it look better (e.g. tint)
(2) To make it go faster (e.g. new engine)

The absolute WORST thing to do is to make it LOOK LIKE IT'S FASTER. Ugh. No, no no.

Not to be nasty about it, but I think this will be lost on you. I would rather be the guy taking the bus to the nasty apartment, and I would have more respect for that guy too. In fact, I was that guy at one time. I could not afford the gas for my V8 Pontiac GTO drag car... so I parked it for a couple months and rode the city bus. To and from my cheap apartment.

But then, I also had sex and it did not involve my brother or parents. :)

And I also would rather live in my own nasty apartment and take the bus to work (which I do, but I still have a car faster than his civics), rather than share a bunkbed, complain about $100 rent, and look for excuses to neglect supporting my child.

Very true. I'm just praying that my rent doesn't reach four-digits (which it will very soon)...and if I had a child, I sure as hell would be spoiling him/her to the best of my ability. Oh, and I used to share a bunkbed with my brother as well. Back when I was EIGHT YEARS OLD. :)

Civic... you missed the question. A link to one video of a civic beating one car, does not mean anything. You can mod your car all you want. In fact, after you are done dumping in a lot of money to break into the 14s, most V8s will still eat you alive. And if they mod their cars? Aha...

See, most ricers like to compare a fully modded Honda against a stock Detroit car, but that is not a fair comparison. Understand I am a fan of the 4 cylinder car and what can be done with it. I am a fan of Japanese cars and I own a Honda and race a Toyota 4 cylinder car. My latest car is a 4 clynder turbo. My new race car is a 125cc Honda powered car that will do a sub 4 second 0-60mph.

But a Civic with mods is still a Civic with mods.

When I was your age I bought a firebird because I wanted a fast car and everyone to look at me on the street. Now that I think back on it, it was a waste of money. I'm thinking to get a vette or something similar at age 40 or so when I'll have the money. Now when I see people with fast cars I don't really care. So their car goes faster than mine, big deal. Something like this is strictly a hobby and discretionary income.

Well said teplitsa. I made that point earlier. It's all about spending more to go faster and what does it prove?

Fast cars like straights. Fast drivers like turns. I would rather be a skilled driver. Pressing the accelerator pedal down is very easy. I can do low .5 second launches all day long. Big whoop.

How much is made of cars to compensate for other things? I love cars, but I have no problem driving a minivan or whatever.

Like I said, house is coming next year :)

And to the ones saying I don't take care of my daughter. Suck a ****! You don't even know me and what I do. Just because I bought another car does not mean my daughter is not taking care of. I would like to say that I pay child supp. each month and NEVER late. I also buy things for my daughter as well as see her as much as I can.

um... are you leaving that Integra engine stock? 170hp isn't going to leave Camaros and Mustangs (excluding the notoriously slow 4.6L GTs before 1999) in your dust.

Your curb weight is 2108, or there abouts, I'm assuming you aren't stripping out the car to save weight, and I'm not including the extra weight of the Integra engine. I'm also assuming you aren't putting huge, heavy wheels and tires on that car (a common ricer trait), which will hamper your times even more. I'm also being generous, and not accounting for any problems with front wheel drive drag launches, which tend to transfer weight to the rear tires, making it harder to gain traction. Nor am I accounting for the unequal length half-shafts and lack of a differential.

To even pull the same 1/4 mile times as Camaro and Mustang V-8s (around 14 seconds out of the box), under optimal conditions and launches, you're going to need about 200 hp at the flywheel. If you want to consistently beat them, you're going to have to improve your times by about a second at least, just to account for sub-optimal launches, and the inherent poor launch characteristics of your vehicle. Figure 246hp at the flywheel. That kind of power isn't easy to generate out of Honda engines, which are already extremely optimized. By comparison, pulling 100hp out of a V8 like the LT1 or Ford 4.6, isn't difficult at all. Remember, I've not added in the weight of the driver, any passengers, a bumpin' stereo, or anything else. The quarter mile times for the Camaro and Mustang are taken with a full tank of gas, driver, and passenger. The civic times are simply calculated.

You might surprise a V8 here and there, but even stock V8s should have you by a good half second in the quarter mile. You can make it up with driver and a good launch, but it's not easy.

and likey randy said, the reality is that no matter how much you mod your car it's still gonna be a civic. no disrespect (i had a civic for a while) but nobody is going to be more impressed by a totally modded civic than they will be by a stock corvette. and why are you trying to impress people with your car? maybe it's because you share a bunkbed with your brother. ;)

What about the drivers? I've seen plenty of Corvette drivers who don't have enough crazy in them to race. I once outran someone in a Mustang with my stock S-10 4-banger because I was the bigger idiot.

My money would be on the championship race car driver in a Corvette over a bunk bed in the 'rents house dweller in a Civic.

My gf just bought a 2003 civic. Nice car. It has 117 horses, who cares. With traffic it's not that much of difference. And she can write the whole thing off as an expense since it's for an independent contractor job.

Personally I'd like a house that appreciates in value rather than a car that only goes down in value. And what if home prices continue to go up? With the car expenses you've just screwed youself. You could have used the money for a larger downpayment. Instead you'll be repaying thousands more in interest over the life of your mortgage just because you wanted a new car.

So I was driving along one day on the road. I had the tunes cranked up and was chilling. When I saw this Viper cruising along. The dude was looking all bad and stuff. So I pulled up beside him at the next stoplight....and revved my throttle. I think I saw a look of fear on his face.

I kept staring at him. He was trying to pretend I was not there. We waited for the light to change. I got set with my foot poised on the throttle and my other foot on the brake. Yes.. left foot braking. I was ready to drop the hammer when the light changed. I would beat him off the light.

With a steely reserve, I waited and then the light changed. Bam, I let off the brake and I lunged forward. YES!! I was taking him by half a car length. Try hard as he could, he was not going to show me up. I ruled.

I did my speed shifting trick, shoving the automatic's shifter in Drive without letting up on the gas. I think here I lost some valuable time as he came up dead even with me. I floored it with everything I had. I would win. I would. My manhood demanded I prevail. I did not want to look bad in from of my crew.

On we went, rocketing down the street. He had passed me now, but I think I was gaining on him. He had a manual shifter and would have to shift. Haha! And then, he turned on his turn signal. AHHA! What a wus! He knew I was faster. I flew by him as he turned into his driveway. Muhahhhaa.... I was the victor. I bet he is so embarassed.

Now to take my mom's minivan back home and let it cool down.

Really, the lesson here is all wrapped up in this. I can easily drive a minivan.... or anything really, because it's not my identity. See, I am content with myself and I know that the car is not me.

I am content with my driving ability and skills. I am content with my career and family and life and where I am at. And it's not about the money or house. I was content with how I was doing when I was riding the bus to my cheap apartment.

I hope you can understand that point?

You know, before these threads I never heard the word "ricer". Why continue to fuel the fire that is LX98Civic? No matter what we say he is set in his ways. Granted, we can all get a laugh out over it...but eventually it will get stale.

All I want to know is if he is going to change his username to HB93Civic now?

When comparing a car's performance, I prefer to compare stock to stock. Afterall, if you have the money, you can make any car go fast. You can make a Civic go fast and you can make Mustang go faster with mods, etc etc. I've seen a clip of a turbo Civic beat a Ferrari F355. Big deal. I'm not impressed at all. I'd still take the Ferrari over the Civic anyday. Most of the Japanese cars are designed to have a balance between efficiency and performance and not intended to be fast on the 1/4 mile. Some cars are designed to do just that. But in the end, there's more to a car's performance than just 1/4 mile times.

I drive an Integra and at one time was into modifying, but I stopped after I realized how much money I was dumping into it. If anything I do now would be to sell it and get me a performance stock car.

I've seen that video as well, I believe. And I'd also take the Ferrari over the Civic in a heartbeat.

After playing around with my first car (Civic), and spending quite a pretty penny on souping it up, I stopped because it was just too expensive. When you stop and consider the different things you can do to stock cars nowadays (intake, headers, exhaust, engine, transmission, tires, wheels, strut bars, NOS, springs, chipping, spoilers, ground effects, etc.), it was just WAY too expensive a hobby for me. Then my car got stolen, so I ended up buying a car that, stock, was much more powerful anyway. And it's still stock. And I'm fine with that.

It's easier and cheaper to take a fast car and make it somewhat faster, than it is to take a slow car and make it equally as fast.

By the time you make that Civic look like the ones in the photos you posted and make it fast enough to take down Camaros and Mustangs, you'll be staring down a $20,000 hole easy. And, you'll still have a 1993 Civic, worth about $3500.

Twenty large isn't a ton of money for a car, but you can get some really nice, really fast used cars for that price. You can find Vettes and Porsches (911s and 928s too) all day long for that price. You could roll around in a Mercedes-Benz. If you're looking for attention or respect, there are better cars for your money. If you look hard enough, you might even find a car that will appreciate instead of depreciate.

Then again, if you don't have money to throw down a bottomless pit, you don't need to be modifying cars. Given your adversion to paying rent and other grown-up bills because you'll never see that money again, I can't say I completely understand.

I'm telling you again, you are one of the most irresponsible people I know, and your thought process looks about like mine did when I was 16.

You never did answer the following questions:
1.) Have you ever lived on your own and paid real bills?
2.) Have you ever had the responsibility of maintaining a residence?
3.) Are you actually paying your parents rent?
4.) How much are you planning on dropping on this car?

Please, tell me if I'm out of line:

Honda Civic h/b : $2500
Engine + installation : $3500
Ground effects / body kit : $2500
Paint job (good/fair/poor) : $5000 / 2500 / 150
Rims : $1000
Tires : $500
Altezza lights, other exterior mods : $1000
Race seats : $1000
Race harness : $500
Turbo kit (with clutch, install, etc) : $5000
Interior bits : $1000

(should have but probably won't do)
Suspension work : $2500
Brakes : $1000
SCCA approved roll cage : $1000

Which is about $28,000 - $18,500... give or take. Remind me why this is a good investment, and better than moving out?

...just realized I didn't include anything in the budget for a trashcan muffler or stickers. Or the cold air intake you won't be able to use with the turbo...

Since that's an engine transplant, you're automatically in the modified class. There's absolutely no way in hell this car (even with the $28,000 in mods listed above and stripped) would be competitive. This is a typical car in modified class:
http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/classes/Modified.jpg

Oh, and that car would cost you far less than $28,000, including the cost of racing it for a year.

Street racing is just a test of who is the biggest risk-taker, not who is the better driver or has the better car. I still bet I could take your Civic in either one of my cars, on the street, on the track, or at the drag strip.

Street racing tests to see who is the dumbest risk-taker. If he wanted to take a REAL risk, he should go out into the real world and make something out of himself. Moving out of the house and living on his own for once would be more of a risk than street-racing. Big whoop. I can get my timing and press down on the peddle, too.

Well... I think there is a limit beyond poking at Civic and trying to make a point, and just bashing on him. As I noted earlier, in case anyone is wondering, a large factor in letting this occur is that at no point is he asking us not to, and in fact, is the person who starts these threads, knowing what that will mean. Sure, he wants attention. We want humor. It's a win-win situation for everyone but his brother.

kvrdave, I don't see eye to eye with you on some stuff, but I have to hand it to you on this post. This is exactly what I'm thinking about while reading this and the other threads. It's easy to stand there and puff out your chest about your new luxury item when all the basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) are provided to you free of charge. What kind of example is this setting for your child?

What would happen if your parents kicked you out on the street tomorrow? You'd be selling those cars pretty fast, either that or living in them. My God.

$2400 for the car + $3300 for the gsr = car that runs in the 15's. I can't think of many other cars you can get for under $6000 that will run that fast, and for that price you won't get a brand new engine. I am not a fan of the looks of the hatchback but if thats what he wants, well to each his own. No use talking if he should have or shouldn't have gotten, he already bought it...

So you're an invalid...you deprive your child food and support over a wagon. Because that's what that car is my friend, a wagon. No wonder you still live at home with your parents. You blow your money like a 2cent whore makes tricks.

Come on now man let's be honest...you wear your pants off your a$$ and a baseball cap backward...there is no help for you. I must say. The whole idea of being cool gets old when you can't keep your job or a family, or a relationship...i know, i know...this will yeild a wise a$$ reply like "bring your subaru down here and let me suck it off you biotch" I don't really care though.

Hey don't pay rent...who cares.....gotta kid...who cares! Try livign in the bronx for a few days with you lame a$$ attitude driving a wagon around like that and we'll see where you are.

Makes me bake my headlights in the oven daily and nightly
Will you ever move out? Yo, I don't think so
Turn off the lights, and keep your voice low
Just like at sixteen, my bro sleeps below his name's Randall
Betcha think I'm the type to wear socks with my sandals

Race, watch my new car zoom
I'm outrunnin' your Vette like I'm sexin' with my bro in the room
Deadly, drivin' this fast could be a felony
The more I'm like Vin Diesel the better chance I have with Bethany
Race it or mod it, I like it either way
I play Nintendo by myself if my kid bro won't play
If the parents want rent, yo, I'll pay it
Wipe off the Civic after Randy stops droolin on it
