Goldeneye: Best FPS Console Game Ever?

Simple question. I just picked up an old N64 to play this game. Any thoughts about Goldeneye would be cool

I voted yes, but I have to preface that vote by saying that I'm only an extremely casual FPS fan.

I hate PC gaming, so the lack of keyboard/mouse control isn't a big deal, nor is the overal lack of being able to aim and move at the same time (with the default controls).

I prefer slower paced, objective driven FPSs like goldeneye. Where there's more emphasis on exploring and sneaking around, rather than just running around and blasting everything in site.

I also will limit my vote to best console FPS that I've played, as I haven't played the majority of them. Off the top of my head I've played Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok 1&2, Medal of Honor, Medal of Honor: Frontline, and Doom II.

Out of those, Goldeneye is the best IMO.

I still say yes. At the time it came out it was the only thing I played for 2 years straight.

Never seen a game like it.

I liked it better when 'Halo' was called 'Turok'

This seems like another "best for it's time" sort of thing. When GoldenEye came out I thought nothing could ever compare. Of course to me FPS have gotten better, i.e. Halo.

I agree, at the time nothing could touch it (I still get flashbacks of all night 4 player games when I hear that music). Then Perfect Dark came out, and it was just as good, but with improvements. Now there are games like Halo, and the soon to be released Red Faction 2 which are far supirior, but I don't think they could ever recreate what Goldeneye did when it was first released.

People can laugh, but the game sure as hell did good for FPS's. That goes for PC ones too.

I've played plenty of PC and console FPSes(though I still haven't played Halo), and I'd say Goldeneye is my favorite. I played through the single player missions sooo many times.. trying to unlock the last few levels and get all the secret weapons n stuff.. no PC FPS has every done anything close to what Goldeneye did in single player, IMO. And that's not even mentioning it's incredibly fun multiplayer, which was pretty much the only game my friends and I played against each other for a couple years.

It is in the top few, but it is hard to put it above Halo.

I would have voted yes back when it came out but there are to many great FPS around now.

Ugh, PD. So hyped, didn't live up to it. Sales figures were awful also.

PD is a good game, but Goldeneye is still the best.

It really depends on how you view the game. I would consider GoldenEye to be the best FPS console game ever. But I'm not comparing it to Halo. I'm looking at it by the prospective of it's content for it's time. It did have great graphics, AI and multi person mode. Also the objectives are awesome too.

If you compare a game to its time, wouldn't Doom be the best FPS ever? Or maybe Wolfenstein?

hey chanster, if you got N64 just for goldeneye, you must go out and get perfect dark!! It's much better.......

OH OH P.S. you don't have to buy a N64 just for the game, you can just download goldeneye on your pc and buy the USB converter for your N64 control. It's cheap and just as good!!

I loved Goldeneye, and for its time it was the best FPS on a console. But seriously - I can't even look at it anymore, due to the terrible quality of the textures in that game (and on most N64 games). N64 games now seriously hurt my eyes to look at.

Well, overlooking the fact that all shooters on consoles suck, Goldeneye wasnt too bad. The graphics look dated as hell now, but for its time, it was ok.
