I'm doing a report on youth violence, and violence in the media, so I watched this with particular interest.
Some of the scenes were rather cliche, such as the battles between cliques. I mean, I'm in high school right now, and I have never seen any of the things that occurred in this fictional school... and the things in there were like an everyday occurence. However, by overdoing it, it does drive home the fact that peers are one of the most influential, yet destructive group in a young person's life.
Regardless of the schmaltz from some of the stereotypical scenes, a lot of the latter half of the movie is quite powerful.
All in all, I don't feel like I wasted my time, and the conference after the movie has already given me a couple quotes I can use in my report
Also, Tom Cavanaugh is going to be forever linked to Ed in my mind... I could not stop thinking about Ed while watching this. I mean all of his mannerisms... they were Ed
