Favorite TV show theme songs/music

Offhand, I think I like these two most:

Hardcastle & McCormick
-RealOne (complete version): DRIVE

Very catchy tune. The show wasn't all that great, but the race car (Coyote) was impressive.

Unsolved Mysteries
Can't find a link to this one. The original score was very creepy.

Mannix had one of the coolest themes by the great Lalo Schifrin.

I also have a soft spot for the music to The White Shadow.

It's really hard to top the shadowy flight of Knight Rider or the crack commando unit of The A-Team (first 4 seasons, not that pseudo-techno crap from the 5th) ... or even Magnum P.I. or Simon & Simon (no, not that "Private Eyes" crap ... the theme) ... or Miami Vice ... or ... ok ... so let's just say all the 80's crime fighter shows.

How about the Ventures music used for Hawaii Five-O?

The Twilight Zone music (not just the main theme) was quite creepy and perfect for the show.

'The Streetbeater' from Sanford & Son is pretty darn perfect itself.

Farscape's theme is incredibly cool and very unique.

And I guess it's unfair to leave out 'Suicide is Painless' from M.A.S.H..

OK, I'll stop ... your topic does say "songs"

I really liked Farscape's song too, although I liked it the first season better than the way they changed it.

I also like the themes to Angel and DS9, and if miniseries count, the theme to Gormenghast.

Right now I love the Alias and Buffy themes but from back in the say I'd have to agree that Simon & Simon was pretty cool and I've always been partial to cartoon themes: Inspector Gaget, Muppet Show, Transformers (second season).

Every time I start to hear the Curb your Enthusiasm theme I laugh out loud! That Larry David is seriously crazy.

Bernie Mac. It's simple, catchy and fits the vibe of the show (even if it has become a cavalcade of stars now )

One of the best TV show themes was for Michael Moore's TV Nation. Man, I wish I could find that somewhere.

I've never seen the show, but I like the theme from MEDICAL CENTER that is one of those CD compliations. Groovy.

I think the best ones are the old 60s shows where the theme songs explain the premise of the show. GREEN ACRES, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, THE BRADY BUNCH, et al.

I always get the Night Court theme stuck in my head...

... and the theme to Greatest American Hero... "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air..."

Some nice choices. I think Greatest American Hero and Muppet Show are high on my list.

I’d like to hear a combination of Night Rider, Airwolf, & Dr. Who (the early years).

Space: 1949 as an excellent example of what was wrong with the 70s. You’ll notice it even today (without the melody), any time there’s nondescript rock music playing, like at a dance bar or something. Check out last week’s Haunted.

My Mother The Car! (das, how could you leave that one off the list?)

Babylon 5 is the only TV soundtrack I own (on CD, that is). A short version opens my computer, instead of that crappy Microsoft jingle.

But, youse guys have frogotten the greatest theme song of all time:

Na-na na-na na-na na-na BATMAN!

The Avengers is one of my favs. I also agree with Twin Peaks.

And more recently, I found myself a few days ago humming some song and couldn't place where I had heard it before. Then I started watching an episode of Monk on USA and *ta-da!* that was it. So I guess that theme is doing it's job and deserves a mention here.

Oh, and I can't let my post slip by without mentioning the best theme song ever:

The "It's Gary Shandling's Show" Theme Song

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked if I would right his theme song.
I'm almost halfway finished,
How do you like it so far,
How do you like the theme to Garry's Show.

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is the music that you hear as you watch the credits.
We're almost to the part of where I start to whistle.
Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show".

*whistling*

This was the theme to Garry Shandling's show.

YES on The Garry Shandling Show theme. LOVED that.

The theme I've enjoyed the most was for Highlander: The Series. It just started off on such a kickass note.

Past and present favorites include Buffy, CSI, Transformers, Muppets and, last but not least, The Gummi Bears
